Tessa's back!

Tessa's home, curled up an a chair next to Claudia. :-) They removed an abscessed tooth and the one next to it which was infected too. Poor little thing; if she was in pain, we never knew it. They said she came out of the anaesthetic really well. Apparently they use a really up-to-date human one which has a shorter 'out' time and quick recovery.

I could hear Tessa calling to me from the back of the clinic as I was paying and getting her medication, and she purred all the way home in the car, the darling. She's just eaten a meal of soft food mashed up with water with apparent pleasure, and had a dose of pain-killer to chase it and she seems pretty much her usual self.

I'm so relieved, and happy that she'll be feeling better than she must have been for the last few weeks.

Thanks to everyone who wished us both well.

I'm so glad she's well. It must have been a great relief for her to be free of those teeth.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 08:01 am (UTC)(link)
I'm feeling guilty that I didn't realise they were that bad; we didn't even know till she went off her food for about three days a couple of weeks ago. Apart from that, she was her usual sweet, affectionate, playful self, but they said she needed surgery so we booked it before Greg goes away next week.

She's sitting on the arm of the chair looking alert and almost frisky after being play-chased ny Vic; naughty boy.

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's great news! Thanks for letting us know - I'm glad that it's gone ok. I think you're allowed to spoil her a little, now! :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 08:05 am (UTC)(link)
I always do; she gets lots of cuddles and sleeps with us and Claudia (Vic was banned for starting fights in the bed). She'll get her favourite soft food for a few days and I'll give them all the run of the house tomorrow while we're at work; they usually just have the laundry (which is sunny and warm and has two comfy baskets in it) and the garden.

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, glad to hear she's better!

And she does sound like she recovered from the anesthesia really well. Poor Nova was really out of it for hours. He'd stumble around drunkenly, then apparently compeltely forget where he was going. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
Awww, poor Nova! Tessa and Claudia were like that--all drunken and dopey--when they were neutered as kittens. I'm impressed with how anaesthetics have improved recently; she's really quite normal.

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
I felt bad laughing at the poor thing, but it actually was funny.

And I'm gonna have to take Vir in for that lil' operation in a few months. I'm not looking forward to it...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 09:54 am (UTC)(link)
Awww. At least it's much more minor for males, though they do walk like John Wayne afterwards. And yeah, I laugh too.

Yay!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
I know! I'm just so happy she's all right. :-D

Of course you are. Is very good thing that Tessa's doing so well, and I'm pleased for you (and Tessa, too) :D

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-05 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! Tessa is less pleased with me, now she's feeling better and livelier. She runs away and sulks for at least 30 minutes after each antibiotic dose. She also refused to eat the soft food I put out for her so she's back to inhaling biscuits. :-P

[identity profile] communicator.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 08:08 am (UTC)(link)
I'm smiling to read this, glad she is back home

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! They're such important parts of our lives, those dear little furr-balls.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
That was meant to be 'fur'; blame the purring going on here. :-P

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 08:37 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad to hear that Tessa is fine now - it's never nice seeing pets in pain...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
She's recovered really well. She's curled up fast asleep on the couch now. :-)

Do you have pets?

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
That's good. I don't have pets - unfortunately I'm allergic to cats and I'm not really a dog person (it would have to be a small dog).

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
That's a pity; cats are better for people who work because dogs are pack animals and it's mean to leave them on their own. Our dog was lucky; my mother used to take her to work.

[identity profile] hafren.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
Oh great! I'm very relieved...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 08:54 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! So am I after worrying all day. Claudia was upset too; she missed her friend.

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
Thank Bast the little thing is back with you again. Love to you both, well, to all your family, human and cat.

I need to get an Oriental cat someday, damn it, just for the attention and curling-in-lap thing. Noki's too big for that!

So, so relieved that you got your little chocolate wonder back:).

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 09:42 am (UTC)(link)
So am I [hugs Tessa]

Orientals have great personalities but my two tabbies were just as intelligent and loving. I got the girls because they don't moult as much--and then Vic turned up and leaves black and white fur everywhere. :-P I believe there's a greater chance of getting a cat who's a good companion with Burmese, but your Noki is a right character.

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
Noki sheds like *fuck*. My new-ish gypsy skirt with LOTS of material, for the winter, has gathered cat fur on its every square millimetre:P. Bloody velvet and corduroy...

I do need an intelligent cat, a witch's familiar;). Noki just sits there and goes "huh? Why aren't you scratching or feeding me?" most of the time, whatever I do:).

Hurrah!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
Yep!

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 09:22 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad she is ok, it's horrid to think of them in pain and unable to tell us

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
I know. :-( She's so happy to be home though.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
:-D

[identity profile] spacefall.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 11:08 am (UTC)(link)
Glad Tessa is home and well :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I spent last night on a corner of the bed so as not to disturb her. :-P

I missed your original post, but I'm glad she's all right.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
She is! Apart from sleeping solidly all night (as opposed to climbing all over us) she's back to normal.

[identity profile] mistraltoes.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
That's good news. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
It is! It's cheered me up a lot (I was a bit down about work and Greg going away etc).

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
As someone who's had a grumbling abscess on a tooth, she may not have been in much pain. Mine was there for several years with just occasional twinges so the dentist left it until it was removed for other reasons. I was however under orders to come to the surgery as an emergency if it did play up majorly. I bet she went off her food with the equivalent of my twinges and then they died down again. You seem to have caught it time.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 05:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I had an abscess for three months once. They couldn't find it on x-ray and only admitted it was there when my cheek started to swell. It was agony when I felt it, but most of the time it was fine or just low-level and ignorable. That must have been what Tessa had because sometimes she wanted extra cuddles and didn't want to move much and most of the time she was quite happy and eating well. I'm glad we got it fixed.

[identity profile] reapermum.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 06:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I was lucky, it showed up on x-rays but was only low level grumbles. He only removed it because another tooth shattered and my bite went all peculiar.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
*scritches Tessa* I'm so glad all went well for your lovely little lady.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It did, and she is. :-D

I got your story; I'm looking forward to reading it.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2005-12-01 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! I hope you like the story. I am resisting the urge to photoshop wings onto a cat as an illustration for it. :^)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-02 05:38 am (UTC)(link)
Don't you have some winged cats you drew?

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2005-12-02 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
Having had at least 4 abcesses during my lifetime she has my sympathy. She will be a different cat now. Glad it all worked out.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-12-02 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I had an abscess once which was only sometimes agony, and this would explain why she sometimes looked unhappy and off-colour and other times was quite normal.
