More memey stuff
Another meme, this time from glitterboy1.
You are 'Latin'. Even among obsolete skills, the
tongue of the ancient Romans is a real
anachronism. With its profusion of different
cases and conjugations, Latin is more than a
language; it is a whole different way of
thinking about things.
You are very classy, meaning that you value the
classics. You value old things, good things
which have stood the test of time. You value
things which have been proven worthy and
valuable, even if no one else these days sees
them that way. Your life is touched by a
certain 'pietas', or piety; perhaps you are
even a Stoic. Nonetheless, you have a certain
fascination with the grotesque and the profane.
Also, the modern world rejects you like a bad
transplant. Your problem is that Latin has
been obsolete for a long time.
What obsolete skill are you?

Cool! I actually learned Latin from my father, a classics scholar, before taking it at school, and I'm a Roman re-enactor. Very appropriate :-)

Hee. In my School Certificate exam (the equivalent of your O-levels) they asked some history questions we'd never done, like "Give some reasons for the fall of the Roman Empire". I let myself go on this one and told them about the lead-lining on the water cisterns and the lead plates the poorer people used undermining their health, the traffic laws allowing wheeled vehicles in Rome only at night keeping them awake, and the financial gouging of insurance companies by tenants setting their insulae (apartment blocks) alight (and reciprocal crippling premiums), and finally Nero's wholesale arson. Hey, at least I gave them a laugh and probably got a point for humour and useless knowledge. :-D

Did you watch the old Jacobi "Claudius" years ago, with Patrick Steward as Sejanus with hair?

I hate dates too and never took to English history for that reason, plus all the confusing dynasties. Give me ancient (far simpler and a lot more colourful too) or the SF future.
I love language, science, and maths. I had great difficulty deciding on only 6 subjects at high school.
