The winter of my discontent

I hate winter. Especially when it's meant to be spring. However here are links to two fun on-line ads which almost distract me from the cold and the rain. [Edit] And the frelling leaking roof.

First up is an old favourite, the chain-reaction Honda Accord ad. You probably already know it: it uses parts of an Accord in a domino-effect chain reaction that used no CGI and took over 600 takes, but it's always worth another viewing.

I also love the Virgin one with the gay couple, one of whom I can't help but think looks rather like a hefty Blake. Awww.

just watched the Virgin one, without sound. Never seen it before but looked pretty funny ;0)

Aww, you need sound! Romantic love songs! :-P

[identity profile] hafren.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 10:20 am (UTC)(link)
Oh god, he does a bit!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 10:39 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't he lovely?

Sympathies with the weather, I hate it when it isn't seasonal. I have the problem at the moment of it being very autumnal up home and still late summer when I get to Newport.

I've never seen either of the adds before since my tv stays firmly on BBC1 or 2. Having ad breaks every 15 mins drives me up the wall. It looks as if I've missed a couple of gems here.

A propos adds ITV is celebrating its 50th birthday and did a survey asking people for their favourite adds, the number one was for instanat potatoes, the Cadbury Smash Aliens. If you haven't seen it you should try to find it, I'm just finishing my lunch break so can't look for it now.

I don't think these ads were on TV: Internet only as far as I know. And we have ads every 10 minutes on all channels. :-( This is one of the many reasons we have TiVos: we can record programs and zap the ads in a couple of seconds. There are a few clever ones but most are utter crap; I'm happy to throw out the babies with the lake water.

Right. Out into the weather and to work. :-(

The chain-reaction Honda Accord ad was on TV, I saw it on TV. So maybe it was only on TV in Australia?

I'v seen it on TV, but I can't remember if I was in NZ or UK at the time. One of those two, anyway.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think it was ever on here; I only heard about it last year through the internet. Not that I watch ads anyway; I'd never seen some of those on the Fair Go Ad Awards (where they showed these two as well) and I'm grateful in most cases.

Yeah, he does kinda look like a hefty Blake, and I thought it was rather cute - untill the ending. The ending kinda bothered me because uhm, dude... he couldn't marry him if he wanted to! (in most of the world, anyway)

And they were such a cute couple, too!

(And am I stoned, or did the other guy look a little like Stark/Paul? There's a pairing to make your brain expload!)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't notice that. I should watch in a bigger window.

he couldn't marry him if he wanted to! (in most of the world, anyway)

He could here! We have civil unions for anyone. Lots of het couples like them too because they carry less traditional baggage than marriage.

Well, and to be fair he could here too. And Common Law unnions have been considered allowable for whateever combination of genders for a while.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Go, Canada! Civil unions are like marriages here: you can make them as full-on or low-key as you like. I've been to a stealth marriage performed at the end of what we all thought was just a birthday party!

Lol! Stealth Marriage!

A Common Law union is even more low-key - you just declare yourself Common Law after you've been living together at least a year, and you can file joint tax returns and all that stuff!

We've got civil unions, too - which does have a ceremony, though it CAN be very low key.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure about the tax returns, but people are considered common-law partners when they've been together for over a year, and they can claim 50% of the property in a split. Still not covered though are platonic relationships like friends sharing a house.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 03:50 pm (UTC)(link)
The big bloke looks like Johnny Vegas did as Blake, which is frelling disturbing...8-)

(Will not Photoshop. WILL NOT. HAND, STAY STILL.)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's what I thought. :-D I suppose it's why I made the connection.

[identity profile] toft-froggy.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Love the first one, but the second one - well, it's funny and all, but oh NO, how can you say that!? He's got a pot belly!

On the other hand, it does give me the opportunity to use this icon.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-10-06 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
He's got a pot belly!

So did bounty-hunter Blake!

[identity profile] toft-froggy.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 06:23 pm (UTC)(link)
But... but... he's slobbery! Blake is NEVER slobbery! That's a really nice icon, btw.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! I thought the guy was sort of cute, but yeah, I can imagine him slobbering all over the other one's shoulder at the end. I once had a guy sleep on my shoulder like that all the way from Melbourne, but I let him. He told me he was scared stiff of flying and had a few drinks before boarding, so I preferred him asleep to panicking about the plane going down in the sea. The attendant assumed we were married, so that ad has extra meaning for me. :-P

I can't say I've been enjoying the rain either...am hoping the weekend will be fine (probably not).

I saw the ads on the 'Fair Go Ad Awards' the other day and thought they were great - it's hard to believe how much time it took to make the Honda one!

Hope you can get your roof fixed soon...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-10-07 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
We've had several goes. Sigh. I hate rain.

I've known about the Honda one for ages but I'd assumed it was CGI.
