30 Days of Blake's 7 - day 1

This was on Tumblr, and as it's the first of May, why not have a go?

Day 1: Favourite season

Seasons 1 and 2. I can't pick because like them both, and both have flaws like The Web in S1 and Blake's obsession with destroying Central Control with enormous collateral damage in S2. To me they're classic B7 as Blake is still there for a start, and there's still hope that they'll make a difference.

I agree that seasons 1 and 2 are the best because Blake is actually there, it felt a bit pointless without him. In hindsight I wish they had recast Blake for season 3, but of course they didn't know back then that Blake's 7 would be an enduring favourite. And I think recasting actors only really started in the 1980s e.g. Steven Carrington in Dynasty.

Also, could you point me in the direction of the list of prompts? I looked on Tumblr but couldn't find them. Or do they only show one prompt a day? I was thinking I might do '30 days of' other shows I like. And there are many! lol.

They had no scruples about recasting Travis! And it would have been simplicity itself to have Blake II say "well, after my life capsule crash landed I was a bit bashed about so I thought I'd have a spot of plastic surgery to be less recognizable to the Federation" (i.e., to Travis II).

Yes they should have done that. That would have been the perfect solution.

Or Blake had a brother, or another rebel used the name for its propaganda purposes. It was ridiculous that half the show missed the title character, and often the whole rebellion thing.

I'm using Travis's recasting in a WIP: he's a memory-wiped, more decorative (in Servalan's opionon) replacement.

I think recasting Blake would have been much better than just having him missing with no explanation. Or perhaps announce his death and go on in his name instead of Avon causing disasters looking for him.

And also, sorry to keep pestering you! I've still never seen episode 1 of season 1. My dad wouldn't let me watch it when it was on in the 1970s because he thought Blake's 7 was serious, scary sci-fi but after a while he relented because he realised it was quite silly. But every time I try and rewatch, I'm always too late to watch episode 1. 'Oh, are they showing Blake's 7 again? Oh it's episode 2.' 🤣
