A new year

The icon lies - there weren't fireworks; they don't do them in Oamaru because of penguins. We did go to a great party in the Gardens down the hill from us: excellent entertainment, bands, lighting in the trees, the best NYE effort in this town yet. Although it's meant to be summer, it's been chilly and we didn't stay till midnight, but went home around 9:30 before it got dark and even colder, and listened to the music from there.

I'm still a bit annoyed that we forgot to go to the new year fair in Kurow, but as that's been cancelled for the last two years, I suppose it's understandable.

I don't do resolutions but it's a new year with a new set of daily questions, this time based on what each day is the international day of (e.g. tomorrow is Introvert Day, yay!) so that looks nicely random. I'll do the ones that appeal.

Today was Global Family Day and that really didn't, as these days it's my infuriatingly right-wing conspiracy-theorist sister, enough said.

No penguins here so of course the noise at midnight was huge as millions of fireworks went off in Manchester. Sounds like you had a nice New Year's Eve. I don't do resolutions either, sometimes I do 'intentions' but I don't really bother much these days.

I enjoyed new year in Frankfurt as the whole city lit up at midnight for half an hour or so, and that was it. It was spectacular to watch from my flat on the 6th floor. I imagine it was like that in Manchester, which you're obviously enjoying living in.

Do your cats mind the noise? Ours don't care at all. Other years idiots would set off loud crackers at night for weeks, and they just ignored it though I hated it. They really cut down on fireworks sales in 2022, and about time; the last two months have been really peaceful at night.

No, the cats don't mind the noise although a few days ago there was enormous bangs, like loud gunshots in the street opposite and they did look up looking alarmed. I just told them it was okay and they settled down and ignored the rest of this loud display. I feel for animals that are genuinely terrified :/

Yes, I do enjoy Manchester but I still have the love for lovely little Ely and it's cathedral, but being close to the boys is worth it by far!
