Questions for 21 and 22 August

21. What is the last thing you cooked?
Breakfast this morning, a joint-effort fry-up: fried eggs, tomatoes, hash browns, toast - lockdown Sunday comfort food. The last thing I baked was wholemeal sunflower bread yesterday.

22. If you could live in a fictional world, which would it be?
It's pretty hard to think of any that would be pleasant and safe; after all, that wouldn't make good fiction. I'm enjoying the Lady Hardcastle mysteries right now, needing some escapism, but even though her pre-WW1 world is a delight, anything set in the past is out because of the sexism and lack of medical science. Therefore I'll go for Iain M Banks' Culture universe as it's a post-scarcity utopia where I'd have a pretty good chance of living a long and fun life on a friendly sentient spaceship - as long as I stay away from any of his books.

I wouldn't mind Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar to live in - they have Healers and plumbing, plus were trying to upgrade from a medieval type society in the latest books.

There's not a lot of obvious sexism and women save the day just as well as the men, which is good. They're going to start televising some of it, which is why it's been on my mind lately. The author approves as well, which is half the battle.

I'm not sure what streaming service it will be on, hopefully Netflix.

Sorry about the library woes. :(
