Questions: 7, 8, 9 August
7. If you use libraries, what is the largest overdue fine you've ever had?
Probably $2 or so. I very rarely return books late, but it's happened.
8. When was the last time you did something for the first time?
The beginning of last month when we went for a drive up the valley and I saw hoarfrost for the first time. I've seen snow plenty of times, but not those eerie frozen trees. Adding a photo from FB didn't work. Maybe laters.
9. Which festival is your favourite to decorate for?
Um, that's not really a thing here. The only decorations I've seen (and rarely) are American-style lights on the outside of houses for Christmas, and I really don't see the point when the nights are so short in December. There's a street in Auckland that's made a thing of it and people flock there for the novelty (though I never did). I sometimes put up an artificial "sunner" tree if people are going to visit and I feel like it; this has summer-holiday decorations like pohutukawa LED lights, retro caravans, glowy jandals, and seashells (and glass planets and model spaceships) but that's the limit of my decorating.
Foreigners do say we NZers are weirdly low-key about festivals.
We're going to get a new holiday next year in June for Matariki - now that would be the time to light up houses!
