Cats and eyes

This time it's Vic who's not well. He's been looking miserable for a couple of days, preferring to huddle in one spot, and not eating, so while I was at the optometrist, he was at the vet. He's got a temperature, but the vet couldn't see anything more wrong with him than we could; he's either got a bite somewhere or he's eaten something bad--and I know he does 'eat out' in the neighbourhood. So he's on antibiotics.

As for me, the reason my eye still isn't right is that my contact lens doesn't fit very well and it's pressing on the injured cornea. The optometrist took all the measurements she could with my eyes being painfully light-sensitive and has ordered new lenses which should fit better and not let as much stuff in under them. I hope it works as I'm fed up with the pain and nuisance. Sigh. It's been an expensive month.

Aww. Good luck to both you and Vic. I hope everything clears up quickly!

Thanks! And I finally remembered to post a [livejournal.com profile] b7friday topic though I doubt we'll get as good a crop of stories as last week. It's hard thinking up things.

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
I've given up trying to predict which topics will inspire people and which ones won't.

I've got an idea I kind of like for next week, but it'll take some prep on my part and might or might not end up being workable, so we'll see. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
I'm intrigued. :-)

[identity profile] neneithel.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
I just want to tell both of you that your brilliant ideas have solved a thirty-year problem for me. Until now, I could never write to order, even in the vaguest terms. I did badly in English at school because I found it almost impossible to write poems or stories on a theme and I wasted several hundred pounds on a writing course in which I couldn't manage the first assignment. Now I feel I've finally learnt to write. Without b7friday, I'd never have managed that.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 07:43 am (UTC)(link)
Oh that's great! What my icon says!

But you already knew how to write; I've read your stories, filks, and in-character LJs. :-)

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay! I have no idea how b7friday managed it for you, and I'm not sure we can really take credit, but yay!, anyway, definitely. :)

[identity profile] neneithel.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
I hope you both feel better soon.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks, me too. Weekends aren't much fun with sight-induced headaches. Vic looks slightly perkier; he's sitting on the TV room couch with Greg for some company.

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
Get well soon, both of you!

*hugs*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 08:27 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, thanks! Vic looks a bit better already; I hope he'll eat something tonight as he needs to take a pill and he's usually very good about eating them crushed up in food (unlike the girls).

[identity profile] pinkdormouse.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
HUGS and get well soon wishes to you both.

Gina

Thanks! I'm really tired and off to bed now. I can sleep late tomorrow and that should help.

I hope you're getting better too.

Poor you, poor Vic. Hope both are better soon. And Tessa stays better, and Greg and Claudia have nothing to trouble them at all!

...if I got T and C the right way round, I'm not sure I remember which was ill last time.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 10:36 am (UTC)(link)
Claudia's the one who got sudden severe arthritis a few weeks ago but she seems as lively and lithe as ever now on her green-lipped mussel pills.

Tessa and Greg are in the best of heath. Oddly enough, talking of eyes, they've both had detached retinas though not at the same time. :-P

Hugs to all, especially Vic!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks. He's come in to sit with us tonight so he must be feeling better, but he still hasn't eaten anything. If he's still off his food in a day or so, we'll take him back in.

Good luck with the anti-biotics for Vic. Hopefully, it's nothing serious.

I must have missed your initial eye-injury post. *shudders* Good luck to you, too.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! It was more than a week ago and here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/vilakins/126738.html). It was supposed to heal up in 48 hours but the lens in my right eye is pressing on the scratch so it's taking a lot longer. I get a lot of stuff under my lenses so I'm really hoping better-fitting ones will stop that, and the agony that goes with it. And before you ask, no, I can't wear glasses. One eye is almost perfect and the other one (unfortunately the one I hurt) has a focal length of about 3 inches. :-( So I'm seeing with one good one and one very, very blurry one this weekend to give it a rest till work tomorrow.

I wonder if you could give adrenaline and soma to a cat?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't put it past Vila to try. "Here, have a cat nip."

[hugs back] Vic's sitting outside on the fence in the sun looking quite interested in the world so he's obviously a lot better

Yay! And that icon is utterly adorable.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-07-24 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
It was so funny; Greg's PC was beeping frantically with Vic sitting on several keys at once, and he looked very puzzled. His paws are either on Greg's mouse of his gel-filled mousing pad with Vic loves the feel of.

Bwah!! God, I wish I could keep a cat in this apartment...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-07-24 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
They do enhance my life so much, but I'm not sure I'd keep one in an apartment. They have a garden and deck and lots of trees here.

And I just noticed all my typos in that comment; that's what comes of typing when my eyes aren't quite open yet. That last sentence should have been "His paws are either on Greg's mouse or his gel-filled mousing pad which Vic loves the feel of." :-P

Hey, I knew what you meant.

[identity profile] jhall1.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 05:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope that the new lenses do the trick for you.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-07-23 11:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too! I'm feeling quite hopeful about that.

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2005-07-24 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
Poor Vic, I hope he feels better soon.
Let's hope the new contact lens will help x

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-07-24 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
Vic may be going back to the vet tomorrow as though he looks better, he's still not eating. :-(

How's your kitten's eye?

[identity profile] daiseechain.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
Aww. Hope you're both feeling a lot better by now. Good luck with the new contacts!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-07-26 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
Vic's eating again and taking antibiotics in his food (he's very good that way) and acting his normal self, so I think he's a lot better. :-)
