International cat day - and snow

... was probably yesterday in this time zone.

But hey, photos of all three taken since Friday here in the Oamaru midwinter.

Sebastian is unimpressed by snow

Nope
"What is this, frozen rain?"

snow
Though it snowed lightly all Friday morning, this is all that stayed in our garden in the shade.

Sebastian and Ashley on our bedroom windowsill in the early morning. The sea is out there past the trees, but too overexposed to see.

Welcome to the South Island. ;-) I remember when we had snow a few years back, our cats were also not best pleased by the experience.

Late reply, sorry. Yeah, I'm in the NI but I have family down south, and am reasonably familiar with Otago environs. :-)

Lovely pictures of your kitty family as always. I envy you the snow (we didn't get any last year) and really envy your sea view :)

Yay! it looks like your kitties have got a whole new set of shows to watch on the "Kitty TV"[tm].

Cats love windows -- all the excitement of watching small critters, with none of the annoyance of wet paws.

So the snow came! I'm sorry Sebastian was so disgusted, but he got off quite lightly. I remember Thomas's first encounter with snow - it was so deep that when he jumped on to it his legs sank all the way in, and he was so shocked his bladder emptied!

Ashley and Jasmine are sensible girls. And your leaded windows look so like mine!

The cats are finding the good spots in their new home. Being snuggled in someone's arms is a good spot when the ground is too cold for paws!

[identity profile] sallymn.livejournal.com 2016-08-10 10:01 am (UTC)(link)
They don't like the cold, do they? {sends cuddles}

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2016-08-10 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It's really warm inside, it being a whitestone house, and usually very nice out for that matter, like today: 3C but still, dry, and sunny. The dryness of the air makes a huge difference. They love the heat from the fire though, and have always enjoyed snuggling in blankets.

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2016-08-10 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
Aww, snuggled-up thinglets! :3 Give big hugs and kisses to them from me.

What gorgeous windows you have! Does the room/shed/whatever it is at the bottom right with the stained glass window belong to you, too?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2016-08-10 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
All the windows upstairs are like that, and downstairs we have some stained glass and crystal lead lights. I'll take some photos of the lead lights as they're gorgeous.

That's next door's house's veranda, a traditional old one with a corrugated iron roof. A bookbinder lives there with his sweet friendly big tabby, Noisel, who comes to visit and loves cuddles.

On the other side is a policeman and family (who all come home for lunch weekdays), and they have a silver tabby like Ashley.

Out the front (well, back really, if the front faces the road), looking towards the sea, there's just our garden, then the Oamaru Gardens, then buildings obscured by trees, then the sea, so it's really very private. I'll do another post with photos as I know Kalypso would like to see the windows too.

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2016-08-10 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
That sounds really lovely!

Oh, BTW, sorry about the other day on Ao3. I agreed with what you said completely, but I know that stuff shows up on Google, and I didn't want to leave flamebait for hatemongerers. So it wasn't me judging you in any way, just wanting to be really careful. *HUGS*

No probs! If you've deleted your reply to my comment, it's all good!

[identity profile] zoefruitcake.livejournal.com 2016-08-10 11:10 am (UTC)(link)
Gorgeous photos. I too would not be impressed by snow ;0)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2016-08-10 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
We were! Even when I lived in Frankfurt and London, I loved it, seeing it as a hugely enjoyable novelty.

[identity profile] ultrapsychobrat.livejournal.com 2016-08-10 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
Sebastian will get used to it. Jasmin and Ashley look cozy—did they go out at all? Love what we can see of your house and garden. Pictures?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2016-08-10 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think there'll be any more for him to get used to. It's warmer here than Christchurch and Dunedin so it only snows every few years.

I'll post some more today of the windows and views, but we really need to redecorate the inside as the plaster's bumpy and damaged and the walls are horrible mismatching colours.

They always know where the warm spots are! Looks like they're settling in. Love your handwarmers. Did you knit them?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2016-08-10 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I did! If you knit, they're Susie's Reading Mitts (http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/susie-rogers-reading-mitts) on Ravelry, altered to not have the picot edging as the yarn was interesting enough. I made myself two (http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Vilakins/susie-rogers-reading-mitts-2) pairs (http://www.ravelry.com/projects/Vilakins/susie-rogers-reading-mitts-3) and plan a third - I need mitts, hats, and scarves here.

[identity profile] vjezkova.livejournal.com 2016-08-10 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, here they are, your lovely cats, safe and cuddly as always! And my favourite boy Sebastian! No matter how cold is, they seem to be relaxed and contented in your new house.
*HUGS*to you all!!!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2016-08-10 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
They're still using the litter try even though they can go outside, and they hated using litter in Auckland. I think they need to claim their territory; there are (lovely friendly) cats to either side who've been using the garden. They like the house though; it's so sunny all day and they bask in pools of warmth and love looking out the windows.

good cat pictures! and that is a lovely view out of your window.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2016-08-10 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll post more of the views today.

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2016-08-10 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
They look like they have settled in.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2016-08-11 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
They have, but they're still using litter though they can go out. I think they have to claim their territory; there are cats (lovely, sweet ones) to either side.

Ohhh they are cute! And in our current summer heat I envy you of your midwinter temperature.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2016-08-11 10:00 am (UTC)(link)
Isn't it always the way? :-) When it's hot here, I'll envy you your snow.

Lovely photos, especially the last one. :)

Awww, your adorable cats are adorable!

Mostly! At least it's easier to clean up Jasmin's recycled breakfast on wooden floors.
