One week to go
Moving day is just over a week away. We're still doing the last tidying up to the house (touches of paint where needed) so it's still a bit of a mess with ladders and stuff in the kitchen and bathrooms. Sigh. It's been going on for months. The stress is wearing me down and I can't wait to get out of here even though I've loved this house. OK, there's more to do in the new-to-us place but there won't be a deadline.
First the cats are being picked up by JetPets who will board them at their cattery till they can fly down. The moving truck with all our stuff will take 4-5 days to get to Oamaru, and we'll take 3. We're driving down in Greg's car with three overnights including the cabin we've booked on the night ferry. We'll stay in the Bookbinder's Retreat right next door while we wait for our stuff then unpack it. And after that, the cats will be flown to Dunedin where we'll pick them up.
I'm half nervous about it all and half really excited. Oamaru is such a cool place, and we already have eager visitors lined up to come and see us, including fellow dam and heavy-engineering enthusiasts we can take around the area. The first guests will be my sister and brother in law who will drive my car down in July and fly back.
But there's so much to do in the next week.

The Bookbinder's Retreat is an old worker's cottage from when Oamaru was young and new, with original features like the range. Michael has a cat too, Noiselle, and we're sure to make friends with her; I hope the cats do too.
I think they'll just be happy to be with us and our familiar-smelling furniture again. Not that they don't take to new stuff very quickly - see my next post.

This, too, shall pass.
Take a deep breath, and take one step at a time.

I hope your cats are all right and they don't mind the cattery and the flight terribly much. It'll be good for them to see your familiar furniture already set up when they arrive.

I don't think the cats will be very happy), but they'll settle down once they back with us. At least we got them on a direct flight to Dunedin.

We'll be able to visit each other! :-D
Awww, the goodnight kiwi! \o/
I'll have to get a steampunk icon as well as this Auckland one.
