Orphan Multiverse requests

I just saw a link to the Multiverse pairings leftover list on [livejournal.com profile] lizamanynames' LJ and am strangely tempted even though I wouldn't get a story myself. For you Blake's 7 writers out there, these are still up for grabs:

4. Mele-On Grayza (Farscape) / Servalan (Blake's 7)
12. Roj Blake (Blake's 7) & Farscape
26. Odo (Star Trek: Deep Space 9) / Cally (Blake's 7)
31. Bialar Crais (Farscape) / Travis (Blake's 7)
39. Kerr Avon (Blake's 7) / Data (Star Trek: The Next Generation)
40. Servalan (Blake's 7) / Saffron (Firefly)
49. Jean-Luc Picard (Star Trek: The Next Generation) & Blake's 7
72. Leela (Dr. Who) / Cally (Blake's 7)
82. Kira Nerys (Star Trek: Deep Space 9) / Kerr Avon (Blake's 7)
91. Cally (Blake's 7) / Daniel Jackson (Stargate SG-1)
It might be fun, especially as there are no minimum length requirements, ratings restrictions, or time limits on these. Also you can ignore the slash or ampersand and write whatever rating you like; there's an encouraging lack of rules. I rather fancy numbers 39 and 49 myself.

Oh and if you're not into B7, there are 100 requests so your fandom's almost sure to be there. Not that I'm sure where you send the stories to...

[Edit] [livejournal.com profile] andrastewhite's running it and I've asked her for details on posting. I've taken 49, [livejournal.com profile] entropy_house has taken 39, and [livejournal.com profile] executrix 12.

And I now have more details. The Multiverse 2004 page is here and you can contact [livejournal.com profile] andrastewhite on andraste (at) bigpond (dot) com to claim a request, and that's also where you sent the story.

82 has a certain appeal, but I don't know Kira well enough to write it.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-07-10 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I've seen all of DS9 but I'm not sure I could write Kira either.

Nico, you're SO totally not helping. Because I hadn't NOTICED the potential for 40 untill you pointed it out... thank god I can't write either for BEANS.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-07-10 06:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen that ep of Firefly yet (inundated with DVDs). I can write Servie but I don't think I can do Western.

That's what *I* said, and then Mal Reynolds moved into my head and told me his life story.

Oh yes, I remember that one. :-) But at least you live on the right continent.

This is true. I still foul up my "american" sometimes - and Firefly has some odd turns of phrase you really only find there.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-07-11 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that's another thing. I just can't be bothered finding out what all the Chinese means and how to use it.

[identity profile] lizamanynames.livejournal.com 2005-07-11 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
You notice I cheated on that front, too. Firefly's a TOUGH fandom to write in - the characters have distinct voices and complex relationships, you have to fill in vast amounts of the backstory yourself, and then there's the gorram Chinese.

The Leela/Cally one is a really good idea.

[personal profile] kerravonsen 2005-07-10 12:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, that was one of my three choices from last year; I was frustrated because it was slash -- I would have actually liked doing a gen version of those two, but since it was slash I did something else. Which turned out to be an interesting challenge, so that was good anyway.

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2005-07-10 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd love to see that one in gen, myself.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-07-10 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you can do it now because they say on the page to ignore whether or not it's slash if you like. Go for it!

Not right now. I am really finding my BadCliche story a struggle, and unlike [livejournal.com profile] astrogirl2 I do not find that being distracted helps.

[identity profile] redstarrobot.livejournal.com 2005-07-10 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I love that pairing. But it wasn't me this year! :)

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2005-07-10 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Those are the ones left over from last year, actually, so it was. :)

And #31 was mine (with either slash or gen requested, FWIW). I've asked for it again this year as one of my three possibilities. We'll see what I end up with. :)

And Multiverse is run by [livejournal.com profile] andrastewhite, so she'd be the person to contact if anybody wants to contribute.

CRAVIS! TRAIS! You know you want to! Neep.

*Desperately needs a Crais/Travis icon*

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-07-10 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, thanks. I'll edit my post and find out from her what the deal is.

[identity profile] kalypso-v.livejournal.com 2005-07-10 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
It's odd that people seem so keen to pair like with like. I'd find a mix like Kira/Avon much more interesting, though possibly it's too close to Blake/Avon to be worth it.

[identity profile] executrix.livejournal.com 2005-07-10 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] kalypso_v: I suspect the pairing of like with like has a lot to do with whether the writer values conflict or at the very least a harmonious pairing in the midst of chaos.

Depending on how that ampersand in #12 is to be interpreted, I'm actually almost finished *writing* it--the story is called "Snarl Time" which will suggest to some of you what *else* is involved.

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2005-07-10 06:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I suspect the pairing of like with like has a lot to do with whether the writer values conflict or at the very least a harmonious pairing in the midst of chaos.

Er, I dunno about that. Pretty much all of my requests are like-with-like, and it ain't because I prefer harmony to chaos, by any means! I suppose something about the "compare and contrast" element appeals to me. Like, I want to see the two characters comparing notes about what it's like to be Character Type X in universes Y and Z. :)
kerravonsen: (Default)

[personal profile] kerravonsen 2005-07-10 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, that's a good reason. I think that there's sufficient differentness in the universes themselves, that you don't have to go for different types of characters as well.

But they aren't all similar characters... my this year's multiverse, the one I ended up picking was characters who were not similar at all, definitely contrasty.

Wheras the one I did for last year... I would never have put those two characters together even in my nightmares; they were neither very similar, nor were they obviously opposite (not the way that, say, Kira/Avon would be). But it worked.

[identity profile] executrix.livejournal.com 2005-07-10 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's [livejournal.com profile] toft_froggy who has an Avon icon with the caption "every crew needs a hot tech"--I think she should have a matching Kaylee one! (and Aeryn, if you can consider her a tech).

And there definitely could be a Space Shows Medican Convention.

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2005-07-10 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Um, I think Aeryn would be very insulted about being called a tech. If anyone's the tech on Moya, it's John. :)

[identity profile] executrix.livejournal.com 2005-07-10 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Especially if the icon captured him bending over in leather pants, I do not think a John icon of that ilk would be considered entirely inaccurate.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-07-10 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] andrastewhite said that people can ignore slashes and ampersands so your story will qualify. :-) I'm going to find out from her how we do it: post stories and give her a link, or send her a text file. I'll update my post when I know.

[identity profile] kerr-avon.livejournal.com 2005-07-10 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
39 tempts me as well- it's one of the few pairings where I know enough about each to *try* (although I didn't watch Next Degeneration all the way through).

I don't know where to sign up, though.... which may be a good thing, as I really shouldn't take the time.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-07-10 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm finding out know I know who runs it, and there's no minimum word count. :-)

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2005-07-10 05:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[livejournal.com profile] lizmanynames gave me the addy & I've asked for #39... now, to find time to *do* it. :^)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-07-10 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
And what is the addy?

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2005-07-10 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry! I'm having another fuzzy-brain day.

The index page for the Multiverse is here (http://www.suberic.net/multiverse/index1.htm), and

OOps! Sorry. I expect it's because I've known a Liz for many years, so her name is the default in my mind-set.

Me and my insistance on having An Unusual Nickname. I *WAS* a Liz for many ryears, but changed it.

You could have flipped it around and become a Zil. That's even a B7 character. :^)

Actually, I wrote myself as a character into a short story I wrote when I was 12 with that name...

I'd forgotten it was a b7 character.

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2005-07-10 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
See? People other than me are PINING for Travis/Crais, and I'd love to see it as a gen version as well...

[identity profile] snowgrouse.livejournal.com 2005-07-10 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I really can't get inside Travis's head. Travis fans would be better at that:)...

I wrote to andraste to call dibs on #12.

Yay! I'll strike it out then. :-)
