Hobbitty goodness

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey has its première tonight and opens for the public Wednesday 12 December at midnight. We have tickets! Yes--for midnight! [is excited] And awww, today's Herald had a poster of Martin Freeman looking very anxious and Vila-like. [loves] There was a photo of the main cast and I noticed Sylvester McCoy was in there; he plays Radagast the Brown.

Wellington is calling itself Middle of Middle Earth as Greg found when he went there last week. On the plane they had the Hobbit-style safety video and also Hobbit-related trivia questions. Of course Gollum is fishing in the airport. When Greg got back, he said he'd also seen Mount Doom from the plane, meaning Tongariro, and it erupted the next day.

I'm not quite as excited by The Hobbit as I was by LOTR, but still. I expect that I'll go and see it not so very long after it gets to my corner of the world. :-)

Ooh...! I actually went to the midnight screening of LoTR here in the nearest larger town here back in, um, whenever-it-was (gosh, it seems a long time ago?) Won't be able to do that this time, though (and it's not released until the 12th here, anyway.) I admit, I'm more than a little bit envious of you now! :-)

Yes, Freeman as Bilbo is making very happy, although I am a little 0_o at what they're going to put in three films. Biffing the Necromancer out of Dol Guldur can't take that long, surely....

No, I don't think we got that one, though I did watch quite a bit of the Australia-South Africa Test as they start at midnight. Do you remember the one at Old Trafford a few years ago?

:)

Enjoy the film!

I noticed Sylvester McCoy was in there; he plays Radagast the Brown.

I hadn't known that until Saturday, when it came up in a clearly very up-to-date general knowledge crossword.

BTW, I think you would enjoy the piece that I've linked to in the most recent entry on my own LJ.

Enjoy the film!
That is a lovely sculpture, kinda creepy but good.

Yaaay :D I was able to watch a little of the premiere festivities from the live stream while at work. I miss Welly so I'm glad I'll be there for Xmas and see Gollum at the airport and everything :) My dad already bought us tickets to go see the hobbit! So excited too! :D

Aw, have fun! Sylvester being in it is one of the main things I know about it (other than the endlessly amusing thing about Richard Armitage being a dwarf. Sylvester will be taller than him!).

:-)

Eeeep, that Gollum is scary!

Such a great cast, I hope the film's a success. I've been enjoying hearing Sylvester McCoy in The Minister of Chance audios. :)

I can't wait for the film. :) Hope you both enjoy it.

I didn't know till this week either! Why didn't anyone say?

Cool link! The version of The Hobbit I have is a beautifully illustrated children's book. :-)

Very effective, isn't it, with the bubbles!

Wellington certainly turned on good weather and everyone was having a great time. We watched the coverage and press conference with great interest.

You're seeing it in Wellington? Even better!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2012-11-29 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
It's so clever how they make people look tall or tiny. Quite a few of the dwarves are actually pretty big people. I love your icon!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2012-11-29 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
It's a wonderful cast! There are a lot of local actors I know from the stage or TV in it too.

Hey, did you get a total eclipse there?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2012-11-29 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure we will! And aww, Martin Freeman who has been my dream Vila ever since he, well, was in Blake's Junction 7. Once again LOTR will be our big summer film for another three years. :-D

[identity profile] nautile26.livejournal.com 2012-11-29 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
Sadly, we had total cloud. It was only about 60% of totality from Sydney anyway, but there wasn't even any noticeable difference in the light levels it was so cloudy. :(

I watched the live stream from Queensland.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2012-11-29 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
I thought you lived further north, by the sea. I must be thinking of someone else. :-P

[identity profile] nautile26.livejournal.com 2012-11-29 11:38 am (UTC)(link)
I spend half my time in Sydney (for work), the rest up north, but it's not far from Sydney, only an hour or so's drive. :)

Yes. I'm just ridiculously amused about Richard Armitage and Sylvester McCoy, though. :-D

And, thanks, it was one of a Silver Nemesis batch I made ages ago - I should do some more Seven icons sometime.

You must let me know where they make the break. I haven't been following any publicity so I don't know how they're going to make it last three films.

OH's theory is they're going to fill in the off scene events like the Council of Wizards that Gandalf mentions.

[identity profile] luinielle.livejournal.com 2012-11-29 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Enjoy the film! It opens here on 14th December and we're looking forward to seeing it.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Apparently it starts with a flash-forward with Frodo and the old Bilbo. I know they're going to fill in quite a lot and tie it in with LOTR more, but when I've seen the Unexpected Journey 'll post about it with spoiler warnings. :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2012-11-30 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
I'm sure I will!

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2012-12-02 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
Martin could be Vila, yes. :)

It's good to have some great summer films to look forward to.
