Day 4 - Ashley on our sundial

I thought I'd have a go at Artrage's virtual watercolours which I'm not very good at. They behave like real ones and I kept making a muddy mess, but layers help a lot with that (as does the undo).

Ashley on our sundial

I'm not that happy with it so I added a green border in the hopes it would improve it. I think it does a bit.

As LJ-hosted pictures aren't always showing up, I also have it on Flickr.

My NaArMaMo 2011 Gallery is here; go up a level for the others.

His fur looks so soft...

Oh, that looks rather Chinese, somehow! Very pretty.

Nicely done... it looks like something has caught Ashley's attention off screen. ;)

Thank you! I don't think watercolours are my forte though.

Probably one of the other cats in the garden!

I love your cat pictures--so sweet.

I like the turn of her head.

It's a lovely watercolour of Ashley. I love how you've painted the texture of her fur.

I like the limited color selection- makes the green eyes really snap.

*still haven't bought Artrage... but I am tempted*

Thanks! She's a hard one to do with her stripes, but she's a little sweetie.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-04 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I think she's looking at Jasmin or Sebastian.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-04 08:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! She's not easy to do with her intricately patterned fur. I call her a living piece of art. :-)

Do! It's really reasonable and the media really do behave like the real thing with paint blending and the brush getting dirty (unless you turn that setting off). I went through some YouTube tutorials when I got it which was very helpful. There are also fun things like sprinkles and stencils.

I like that. It has a stylised feel, but you've really caught her.

I think I will. Next thing on my purchase list is a new computer. As soon as I decide on the options I'll get it & then maybe that'll make a difference which version of Artrage I should get.

I went for the cheapest one ($25 at the time, I think) and later they offered me a good deal on the Pro so I went for it as it has more media including the watercolour. There's even a setting for water only on the brush. :-)

I see they just did some updates at the end of July so maybe you can check on that? It says the updates are free for members.

Studio Pro is now $80, reg Studio is $40.

Undo is a great invention isn't it? I really like the composition and the palette of colors you're using, it suits the watercolor effects.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2011-08-05 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
OK, I got regular Studio then. I don't think I'd need more than that.

Thank you! I have come to rely on undo and layers and other features of digital art. It's a lot easier and less messy too than paints.

*nods* Once I get a new computer I'll check it over in detail, but I expect the regular Studio has quite enough features for me.
