I suppose I should post something other than a B7 episode review (and I'm glad to say they're almost over).

Spring is definitely here; daylight saving came in last weekend and it seems to have made the weather buck up and be warm instead of stormy. I'm sitting here in the sun in a t-shirt.

What have I done lately? OK, I went to a second-hand book fair and though it wasn't anywhere near as good as other years, I managed to score a complete set of Aubrey and Maturin novels, yay! That was all, but I'm very pleased. We had dinner with alicambs and her partner on Sunday at the Casablanca, and though it took them almost two hours to get there because of an accident on the motorway, the food and conversation were excellent. And I signed up for the Ficathon Walks Into a Bar and got my assignment today. It's not as cracky as I'd hoped, but I've already got some of the conversation in my head.

I'm also considering running a B7 crackathon after remembering how much I enjoyed writing fics for one a few years ago. It has occurred to me, you see, that the reason I haven't written any of my outstanding fic ideas is that they're all fairly serious. I crave humour. The only thing though is that I'm not sure how many writers there are left in B7; there's not much point if there are only two or three of us. Who would be interested? It would be very informal. People would submit ideas, I'd list them, and they can pick one or more to write. The last one spawned my Genie Blake in a Bottle, the Liberator having a baby Lib, and Jenna Stannis PI (the last two connected).

And speaking of B7, I meant to write up an "in praise of" post for each of the rest of the crew to go with the Blake one but I've been slack. I've been reading Aubrey and Maturin. :-)

It is! Much more fun than Hornblower and sometimes laugh-out-loud funny. "Jack! You have debauched my sloth!"

Regarding a B7 crack ficathon, I'm afraid that writing crack doesn't really appeal to me. I did write a crack ficlet once, but it was for Doctor Who.

Stephen brought a Brazilian sloth on board and though it was a happy sloth in general whicj enjoyed hanging from various ropes, it was afraid of Jack. This saddened Jack, and when it got colder as they sailed further south, he fed the sloth cake soaked in rum till it not only stopped looking so cold and miserable but climbed into his lap and fell contentedly asleep. When Stephen came into the cabin and saw this and smelled the run, he uttered said memorable line. :-)

I rather like it as it's a chance to play with science or fantasy. But I didn't expect you to write B7, so don't worry. :-)

Ahhh, yes, I'd forgotten that. I'll probably be running it too. Maybe I'll ask people for fun suggestions since I'm feeling so blah about the stories I should be writing. Or I'll just finish the Lynx series off. I suppose I should do that.

OK, I'll wait a week to see if anyone's interested in a crackathon.

Ooh, excellent! I keep eying sets of those. One of these days, I really do want to get around to reading those books.

They're worth it, being very well written with fun characters and often laugh-out-loud humour. You get lines like "Jack! You have debauched my sloth!" which is now one of my favourites.

I was thinking fairly soonish, and for me there's also picowrimo in November. I don't want to wait till next year, and I doubt it would be a big thing anyway. Besides, there wouldn't be a word count limit or any rule requiring people to sign up and write. I'm just hoping to be inspired by some bizarre requests like the last ones, and that others will be too. :-)

I did! I could get them from the library but owning the books means I can read them at my leisure without worrying about getting them back inside four weeks, which is sometimes a problem when I borrow a lot at once.

And also frustrating because you have to search randomly-organised books to find good ones. I was lucky these were handed in in one lot in a carton, so I grabbed it. :-)
