Camellias and a striped cat

Today is horrible: grey, wet, and with the rain clouds extending to the ground, the horizon is all strangely blurred like London in Sherlock. However it's been fine enough for me to get photos of my camellias which brighten up winter for me, with a bonus Ashley who does the same (along with Jasmin and Vic)

The white camellias have been out for about a month, but last week I noticed the first pink one was out and immediately took a photo.

I really like the look of it at this stage while it's still opening.

A lot of the white ones are past their best but there are still buds coming along.

I took this a couple of days ago of the same pink flower, now much more open. I love these flowers. They add colour to winter.

And as usual when I'm outside, the cats are around, following me everywhere with interest. Jasmin was too lively to catch in a good photo, but Ashley was kind enough to sit still and pose. :-)

Gorgeous camellias and cat.

Beautiful! Ashley, too, of course.

They make me happy, even on a day like today. :-)

She looks as if butter wouldn't melt, doesn't she. :-)

Ashley looks like a white tiger there, almost. Like a white version of a Toyger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyger).

Love the flowers too, especially on a grey rainy day.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
I've never heard of toygers, but we say we have a white tiger and a lion. :-) She's so soft and plush I want to pick her a up and cuddle her whenever I see her.

[Edit] I googled toyger images. Wow, they're gorgeous! I also love Bengals which look like little leopards. Patsy, who bred Jasmin, has those (http://kirhiem.com/bengals.htm).

Oh, definitely.

Unbelievable! You have camelias in the garden and now you can watch these royal blossoms! Even in a such a bleak, gray day, they must do their magic for you, or so I hope.
As always, seeing any of your cats is a joy!
Thank you for the pictures!

I googled them, too. Want Toyger!

Beautiful flowers (& beautiful Ashley..she looks like she knows it, too! =^.^=).

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
Are they royal? I thought that was chrysanthemums, but that pink one really does look like one. Are they related? I see they do grow in SE Asia and Japan so maybe.

It's always a joy for me to see my cats too, especially when it's unexpected like walking into a room and finding one. Serendipity!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 11:02 am (UTC)(link)
I think she does!

The pink camellias are a joy of colour, aren't they ? I don't have anything as lush as that in my garden in the winter.

Ashley's beautiful, and looking very grown-up, there. She's nicely camoflagued against the silvery parts of the decking, too.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 11:11 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so pleased we have some colour. The magnolias are coming out now too, but we just have white. I love the pink ones down the road.

Claudia used to match the silvery deck too.

About the camelias: here the blossoms are considered something exclusively limited for royalties or aristocracy or Puccini ...or posh idiots who simply put a white blossom in a button hole:-)
I don´t know anything about a botanic background of camelias, but they are wonderful in your garden!
While waiting here with you for a kitchen floor to dry after cleaning,Tygr is just exploring the foam in a bucket ...sneezing now, yes...looking at me indignantly...a catflap sounds...he is out. :-) Mńau!:-)

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 01:22 pm (UTC)(link)
The camellias are lovely. Ashley does like having her photo taken doesn't she!

[identity profile] luinielle.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Beautiful flowers. And Ashley is so pretty!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Buttonholes? They must be small ones there; mine are as big as my fist! Bigger, in fact.

:-D Silly boy! He must have sniffed some in. Poor Tygr!

[identity profile] vjezkova.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooooohhh...really so big? Magnificent! Fantastic!
Tygr returned with a mouse in his mouth...I showed him a tiny plastic container with coffee milk...he dropped the mouse and went to lick his reward happily. In the meantime I removed the mouse without problems. The foam is forgotten:-)

It's usually hard to get her because she runs up to the camera. :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
She's another flower in my garden! There's a quote I read once that kittens are the flowers in the garden of life. Cats are too. :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
He must be a dairy-loving cat like Ashley, who loves yogurt and soft cheese. She's sometimes licked out my glass that had coffee-flavoured milk in it but I'm not sure if coffee's all right for cats. I know chocolate is bad. A little caffeine is probably OK, but she's playful enough already! ;-)

Ashley is such a stunner, and so are those camellias. They look huge!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2010-08-03 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
They are! They're bigger than my fist. I think they usually are here.

Very nice. :)
