BTW I'm reading 'The Queen of Attolia'. Perhaps not the best thing to read while feeling down and pissed off. It starts off really bleak, then takes off in a strange direction. I'll trust you though.
The Queen of Attolia is kinda depressing. Aaargh. I feel mean because the timing really sucks. *squirms, feels guilty* Everyone hates it the first time they read it. It's not until I read the third book (happy book!) that it all fits together and I can understand it truly.
"You do? But you could get spoiled by cuts that aren't cut! I just read my flist."
Yes, maybe I should switch to doing that. But when I don't have time to do read my flist, it's useful to get email heads-up about posts by certain "priority" people. :) I do that for about half a dozen people on my flist.
"That's a good clue! Or six go to a Californian city to find a thief?"
I had to get up and read because I couldn't sleep. I don't remember any Vilas, sadly. :-(
If she's always rather liked the thief, and it seems she has, why cut off his hand? That was so cruel. I'm about halfway through now, skimming the politics because it makes my brain go glazed.
I'm glad the magus isn't an aristo. At least there's one character without royal blood, yay.
Isn't it! I got it straight away, and couldn't believe it. :-) Tessa used to appear a lot, being a backwards asset, but so far none of the cats have. I wouldn't put it past Avon to pop up though.
I often wondered, do they do cryptics in the US? I know the normal puzzles look quite different with a lot more words adjacent to each other and sharing letters.
My local newspaper didn't bother with them, but you could subscribe to puzzle magazines & get them. Possibly other newspapers in more civilized areas ran them.
Our papers publish English ones. The trash mags (women's magazines) do native NZ ones which I usually do when I'm at the hairdresser or a coffee bar since I refuse to buy those magazines. :-)
Many years ago, I used to buy a few women's magazines near the holidays because they had directions for all sorts of gifts to make. For a dollar you could get a bunch of recipes, wood-working, knitting, sewing, crocheting directions, etc.
The rest of the year they were crud about how to make yourself into whatever your man wanted, and be sure to stay neat and pretty while drudging. But it's been a long time since even the holiday gift issues were worth anything, last one I looked at years ago was all 'buy this and glue this other purchased item on it'.
Haha, English crosswords are a total mystery for me, if I manage one or two expressions in a magazine, I feel like a queen:-) I wrote " of course" because it was you, attached to Vila, no matter the spelling.
A common form of architecture in this city from about 100 years ago is the villa (http://images3.realestate.co.nz/edi/OSLupot001/photos/UPH10439-1.jpg), and frequent mention of this this always makes me do a double-take. :-P

I get email notifictions of your posts, and unfortunately they reveal everything.
I was wondering what a cryptic clue for Vila (as opposed to Villa) might be. Possibly "Blake's 7 character's football team is fifty short".

That's a good clue! Or six go to a Californian city to find a thief?

Anyway it's midnight and my computer becomes unusable then when the scan kicks in--a way to make me go to bed. I'll probably feel better tomorrow.
So off to bed now. :-)

Here's a clue I made up for Vila: Six go to a Californian city to find a thief.

I'd much rather read an article on how to fix a leaky toilet- that might have bearing on my life.
