Day 23 - X is for Xenolinguistics

Today's entry for [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo is the science fiction ABC I failed to get right yesterday. I couldn't draw an alien I liked, and even the human wasn't working. I had another go today, and this time it came together.

X is for Xenolinguistics

One of them is slightly based on a recent film. :-)

My NaArMaMo 2009 Gallery is here and my SF ABC Gallery is here.

Gosh, what recent film is that? *g* I think I love your text as much as the pictures.

Love it! :)

It makes a change from Xylophone. :~)

Nice one.

(grin) Uhura!

Don't tell me, it's the one with the eyeballs that was recently in a film. I love the expressions those eyeballs have!

Hah! I love it. I don't know why, but I have the feeling they're discussing knitting. :^)

I love this series.

[identity profile] kindkit.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
That's completely adorable.

Ahhahahahaha, I love it. And Uhura looks like she's cosplaying Son Goku from Dragonball Z, ahahaha. So glad the drawing worked the second time around. :D

That's great! Their body language really works for me :)

Oh, I like your alien... it looks cheery and friendly :)

Love it. Great X-Over
Uhura meets the aliens from Toy Story!

I just love that ABC series you're making! If you make it to a book out of it I'd like to have a copy, please!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! But a young one since this is a kids' book.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! No, sorry, it's a young version of Uhura because she specialised in xenolingustics. I didn't know there was a stalk-eyed alien in a film. I based the eyes on a newspaper cartoon I once saw. :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure what they got on to after the opening pleasantries! I can't imagine a young Uhura knitting though. Perhaps they find they have a common interest in low-grav hang-gliding.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, I didn't know that was Uhura. Perhaps they were discussing mascara, then. The alien wanted to know if it could be bought in bulk.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Ha! Pure coincidence! :-D Since she was a baby Uhura I couldn't put her into ST uniform and I thought those colours would look nice on her, and be brighter than the ST red and black anyway. :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 11:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, it's a little Uhura! The alien's a made-up one though; I did the Toy Story one in A is for Alien (http://pics.livejournal.com/vilakins/pic/001kg0a8). If I ever submit this to a publisher, I'll change him to this alien. Hmm, I see I gave him a turquoise outfit too; pure coincidence. I thought it would look good with the other colours.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
If it ever gets published, I shall be so happy I will send copies to any friend who wants one!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh good, because I wanted it to be! :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad it finally came together. :-) I just couldn't get the figures right the first time and gave up in disgust.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Uhura suggested that it ask Avon.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Xylophone wouldn't be SF anyway! Not unless something with tentacles was playing it. :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-23 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2009-08-24 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Avon cosmoetics are everywhere!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-24 12:02 am (UTC)(link)
They are! It's a galactic business!

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2009-08-24 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
What he makes on Shadow alone would pay Ehouse's tax bill for the next... 1000 years.

[identity profile] pinkdormouse.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
Very cute!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-25 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks!
