Day 14 - Rinconada Cat

Today's [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo is a Rinconada cat, the first one I ever got, and still my favourite. Rinconada is a Uruguyan maker of the most wonderful animals--have a look here-- and I have a few others: a calico, a tabby, a tiny grey cat, and a white tiger cub.

Rinconada Cat

Tessa often took this pose and we'd call her our live Rinconada cat. :-) This one is about 12cm long, and I gave her lighter colours to make them show up more. She's in the Anniversary collection as Cat #721, picture here. I found my tiger cub in the Rincababies--see here--but not the others I have.

I had a hard time with the highlights--simply adding translucent white as I usually do didn't work--but the dodge tool set to highlight turned out to give me the sort of metallic sheen I wanted.

My NaArMaMo 2009 Gallery is here.

Oh! Oh! Oh, that is just the most wonderful thing ever. :)

This is really pretty much my favourite piece, and Greg loves it too. Damn, but I found matching kittens on the Rincababies page. WANT! I only buy if I happen across one I especially like in a shop though, and that doesn't happen often. I restrict myself to felines because otherwise I'd have camels and turtles and all sort of wonderful animals.

N'aww. And I like the dodge tool. it's really good when I want to take out shadows and add highlights. I often use it to whiten the whites of people's eyes when I've warmed up the headshot so much that the whites turn orange.

I kind of like those Rinconada things. Especially the swirly ones.

Pretty kitty.

I do use the dodge and burn tools, but usually set to midtones. That wasn't working, but with I used highlights, it was just the effect I wanted! I'm still finding out things about PSE2 and the GIMP. :-)

I love Rinconadas! I seem to have some fairly pale ones; I lust after the kittens which match this one, and the blue tabbies. Maybe if we go on holiday to Paihia next year; that's where I bought most of them, though two little matt ones (one grey like Claudia) were gifts.

She's quite gorgeous in a muted way in RL. :-)

smashing - I like the picture, and the piece

That's delightful and I love the expression the cat in your drawing has.

That must have been a technically difficult piece to do, getting the perspective and the angles of all the lines of the markings correct. Great work !

This is gorgeous. Thanks for the links--they're great animals.

OOOh, what a wonderful image. That's beautiful. And thanks so much for the links. I loved looking at them-- now I want to do more clay play. :^)

Gorgeous! Beautiful eyes.

[identity profile] azdak.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 05:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow! That's amazing! You've really made it yours (and the metallic sheen is awesome).

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
She is lovely in RL: all round and solid and looking up appealingly, and in quite subtle darkish colours.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
She has such an appealing "pick me up" look. :-)

It was a hard angle to draw from, but I wanted to show her pretty round face and the curve of her body and tail. I gave her a proper polish this morning though, and what I thought was a pewter colour with a soft sheen has come up bright silver. Oh well, that would have been hard to depict.

I want so many of them! I'll have to see if I can find another next time we go to Paihia--if the shop I found most of them at is still there.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
A lot of them are very simple shapes, just coloured beautifully. :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! She has a very sweet if unrealistic face. :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-14 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
It's no longer accurate! I gave her a good polish and what I thought was a pewter colour with a dull sheen is silver. Duh: she's part of the silver collection after all. So in fact some hard bright highlights would now be correct on those few bits. I polished the others too and got the silver and gold to come up properly; poor neglected things.

She is a beauty and has a very winning expression.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
She's one of my favourite inanimate cats! :-)

Awwww, you have that lovely cat icon; one of Sally's? It reminds me of Ashley.

[identity profile] jaxomsride.livejournal.com 2009-08-15 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Yes it is one of Sally's and has Ashley's gorgeous green eyes.
