vilakins: Vila in cold-weather clothes looking unhappy (weather)

Why today?

We really need rain, but why is it raining today when it's the Kumeu Wine and Food festival which I've been looking forward to for weeks? The only other day it bothered was when I had the interview and my hair frizzed. Nice one. And I see the rain radar shows that this is the only place in the country where it's wet.

We missed the festival last year because we were away, and the year before too, and it looks like we miss out again.

That is so unfair!

Somewhere the weather gods are laughing at Auckland, I'm sure. :(

Rain is like that. I think I'd need to buy a car and wash it before it would rain here.

Two words: umbrella hats (http://www.umbrellahat.net/).

Not big enough. And sitting on wet ground or under wet trees? Not so much fun.

Never mind; we had a nice lunch out with wine instead.

Yeah, I thought it probably wouldn't be sufficient. It's just that growing up here, cancelling plans because of rain is pretty rare. We just go on with it anyway. It's a matter of what you're used to and prepared for, I think, because our traffic and commerce are paralyzed by amounts of snow that my east-coast flisters wouldn't even blink at.

The thing is, the festival is complete outside so it's either walking around or sitting on the ground which isn't fun in the rain. It's hard to eat and drink while holding an umbrella. If it was under cover, it would be another matter.

And guess what. It's almost 5:30 and the sun's finally come out. Sigh.

Yeah, I understood that it was outside. It just wouldn't stop someone born and raised in Seattle. We might put on a rain hat and carry a plastic cloth to sit on, but we'd go anyway. I've even run a booth at an outdoor crafts fair in the rain (with a plastic tarp over the top, thank goodness). Rain is something we barely notice here. I'm sorry it spoiled your plans, though.

I'm sure others went anyway; I just happen to hate rain and being wet. Besides, I'm still getting over bronchitis.

I once tried to go to a local outdoor food and wine festival, despite the cold drizzle. Turned out that the festival itself had been cancelled :(

[identity profile] mistraltoes.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 05:31 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, still the bronchitis? Ick. I'm glad you didn't go, then. ::hugs::

I'm a lot better but still coughing.

Well, pooh. They were no fun, were they.

Well, I don't blame the vendors for not wanting to stand about in the rain, but still... :/

oh how disappointing :0(
