I made Greg watch another Pretender ep with me, pointing out the surfeit of Top Gear I'd been subjected to lately (look, the guys are funny, but I can only take so much stuff about rich bastard cars--about two minutes to be exact).

I now know why redstarrobot said that Sydney would know he was under constant surveillance. The A story was of limited interest to me--models and fashion bore me to distraction--but the B story was compelling.

Poor tragic Parker! And she even used the word "tragic". Jarod does like playing complicated games with her, but he's basically kind. I thought he was showing her where her father was--and indeed he was, but it wasn't Mr Parker. Does Benn Miller suspect too? Does Daddy? And I wonder where Daddy was. This has to be one of the few times I felt Parker needed a hug. I'd disarm her first though.

Hey, I had one of those view-master things when I was a kid! I didn't see in 3D till I was 14 I could only see out of one eye till I got a contact lens for the really, really (nose-focal-length) myopic one and I used to sneer at the unreality of the3D the two images created. Heh: when they put that lens in, I yelled, "Hey! Your desk comes out from the wall!" Anyway, blast from the past there. Does anyone use those thing anymore? I loved ours with the Disney cartoon scenes.

I don't know who played Toby, but he reminded me a bit of Jim Carrey. What, he was supposed to be weird-looking? I thought he looked rather cool with the platinum hair and black eyebrows.

I have decided to demand at least two eps a week.

Also, I've found a rather good Pretender website, Pretender Headquarters. I'm being very careful about spoilers, so I've only looked at the ep guides (under "Red Notebook") I've seen. They're pretty good, and have lists of things like Jarod's surname and its origin, his discoveries, and ep notes like Jarod's favourite doughnuts. :-)

I don't think it was one of the best A-stories ever, but I found that I didn't hate the whole fashion model thing anywhere near as much as I usually do. I think because Jarod actually brought out a bit of humanity in the whole thing. :)

I don't know about Ben, but I've been developing theories about Daddy Parker, and have come to the conclusion that he's one of those people who just sees what he wants to see, believes what he wants to believe, and simply refuses to recognize any truth about his personal life that he doesn't find appealing or convenient.

So did I! I was very fond of my Wrath of Khan reel. :) I should look and see if I still have it somewhere.

Also, I've found a rather good Pretender website, Pretender Headquarters.

I will have to go and thoroughly explore that site once I'm not worried about spoilers any more.

You had a Wrath of Khan reel? Why does this not surprise me? It's also much cooler than the Disney cartoons my parents got us.

I'm just going to go back though the eps I've seen and avoid the rest of the site. :-)

I had a Viewmaster, too. Cartoons and National Parks scenery.

I feel all nostalgic about it now. I suppose ours was thrown out with everything else from our childhoods.

I adore parts of Top Gear - we watch it religiously, but we tape it first so that we can fast-forward through a fair bit of the, err, 'car' stuff.

We did have it recorded (on our Sky box), but Greg's a bit of a petrol-head. I do love the interviews and the challenges like the race across Japan and the things they do to hated caravans, but the car stuff bores me unless it's something fairly bizarre.

The first time I ever saw it (I'd heard about it and thought "car show?? oh god no") was when I was in a store and they were playing the challenge DVD on a big flat screen.

To be precise, the first amphibious car challenge.

Which I still think is the funniest thing I've watched this decade...

I've seen that! I think my favourite is the Robin Reliant space shuttle though. :-D

Now a challenge DVD sounds like the thing to get.

The first one is badly put together (the idiots who did it cut challenges together, rather than finish one then do the next...) but BRILLIANT - it has both of the above, plus the make-your-own-people-mover, the 1970s supercar and the race between Jeremy in a supercar and May and Hammond in May's plane...

And the second is much better put together - one thing at a time - and has the race across London, the second amphibious car and a heap of others.

We also have the Winter Olympics one :)

We like the challenges, we do.

They definitely sound worth getting. I'm sure I've seen them here.
