Knitted teleport bracelet!

Another hot day today! I had to go into town to meet my sister for lunch at a place she swore was wonderful, but where we ate very substandard pasta (she apologised and said it was really good for dinner which didn't really help). She was buying material for an outfit for a family wedding next month which I'm really pissed off about because it's on at the same time as the Wings Over Wairarapa air show where they'll have a Spitfire. A Spitfire! Newmarket was hot, crowded, and noisy and it's taken me over an hour to cool down.

I have however finally sewn my knitted teleport bracelet together, done using [livejournal.com profile] wolfma's pattern here.

It fits well, but doesn't appear to work. :-(

The pink crystal is slightly raised due to increasing and decreasing two stitches.

When I do another one (I have lots of yarn left over), I shall use a better method of knitting yarn in behind than I did for this one, and plain intarsia for the pink to make it stand up more.

On my hand, looking eerily gothic in the shade. :-P

Ah, that explains it! That site is very clever at finding patterns I've linked to like the DW scarf one.

How cute! :-)

I can't do that with the one I'm going to send to [livejournal.com profile] crycraven as it would really raise the cost of postage.

Cool! I'll have to see if I can buy them here. Freight's such a pain; it's usually more than the item is worth.

How are you going to do his insides? Just in a pattern on the outside? He's really quite complex.

Thanks!

I do have a proper replica teleport bracelet (http://www.horizon.org.uk/news.php?readmore=102) made by Martin Bower, but I can't wear it as it drops straight off, or I'd have had it at Star One. I should glue some foam inside it, but I'm loath to muck about with it.

The Liberator must be off station. :-P

I learned when I was about 11 and never forgot, though I've only gone back to it this year. I did teach myself how to crochet though, and I have friends who've just learned.

I want to knit things like neck cuffs, the sort of thing I can't buy.

I'm very pleased with it. :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I doubt my knitting skills are up to it anyway. [wonders if there is a pattern...]

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Kudos to [livejournal.com profile] wolfma for figuring out the pattern. :-)

Yes, That's right! My hand looks as if a vampire drained me of blood. :-P

If I had meant "like a Goth" (those who like to dress up in gothic style), I'd have said that "it looks very Goth". :-)

If you get really thick foam, it could stay just by pressure, and not have to be fastened in?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks; Greg's sure to have some at work. Most computer stuff comes in it. I'd hate to have the thing drop off and break though (especially when a bomb's about to go off in a communications centre).

That is so cool. And special thanks for linking to the pattern. If I ever make one I'll tell you & [livejournal.com profile] wolfma

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2008-12-05 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
If I can make one, it'd be a doddle for you! You probably have leftover yarn you can use. :-)

Not only do I have a closetful of assorted yarn--I'd *guilt* bought a bag of mixed yarns for $6 from the thrift store a couple days ago and haven't even opened it up-- some of it is varying shades of dark brown, and there's a sort of fuzzy bright pink...

Brilliant! A fuzzy teleport crystal!
