Day 21 - Art Deco statuette

Today's entry for the [livejournal.com profile] naarmamo National Art Making Month challenge is a quick and dirty drawing of an Art Deco statuette I bought in Napier on my summer holiday this year. The drawing is about four times her size, but I could only do her top third as she's extremely elongated.

She's beautiful. I really like the subtle shading on the collar.

And skinny as a rake, I know those type, she is lovely.

Greg doesn't like her because she's so stretched and deformed, but I like the style.

Wonderful, I love Art Deco! (And Napier is an amazing place.)

Do you know the Phryne Fisher (http://www.phrynefisher.com/) books? This reminded me of the covers of those.

Thanks! It's textured (meant to be fleece) so I put a textured brush over it to try to show that. She looks much more pensive and elegant in RL.

I don't, but those pictures are gorgeous! I must see if the library has them.

You've been to Napier? :-D

Yes, when my brother was living in Wellington, and my sister and I went out to visit him. We spent a couple of weeks touring around the North Island and stopped off at various places. I think my brother may have lived in Napier for a while: so far as I can make out he's lived in most places in New Zealand - except Auckland! (He and his family are in fact living in Havelock North at the moment.)

[livejournal.com profile] mraltariel and I did a separate trip a year or so later, when my brother got married, and toured round the South Island.

For some reason, she looks like a Genevieve :)

Oh, she is very elegant. I love the art deco style.

You've been here twice more than most people I know then!

Hmm; good period choice. The one in the drawing could well be. The statuette looks more like a Leona. :-)

Thank you! So do I. I'd love to live in a house from that era. We would have bought one (complete with lion head fountain) but there were apartments next door and a big new house going in front.

Ooooooooooh, I LIKE her!! And I love her hat.

Thanks! She's very elegant and much prettier than my drawing. All she needs is an Afghan on a lead.
