Claudia update

It turns out that Claudia's teeth are absolutely fine! She has a sore throat, but her temperature's normal so that's a relief. I have some paste to put in her mouth twice a day, and the vet gave her an injection to stimulate her appetite.

She had cat flu as a kitten and I read recently that it can come back when a cat's under stress, so I suspect this is something like that. She knew Tessa wasn't well and of course she's now missing her lifelong friend, but she's still eating, and purring when we cuddle her. I'm so relieved she doesn't have to have an operation.

If she's emotionally depressed and not eating well, you might try catnip. Not all cats respond to it, but if they do, it can cheer them up and improve their appetites.

Oh thank goodness. She probably will fret a bit for a while - our Lacey did when Jassy died, and Lacey was young and healthy, but still insisted on being worried over and petted for a while.

That is good news. I think you're right in guessing that she's missing Tessa; I remember lost Shiraz looked after Vila (our little fuzzy b&w) died.

Awww, you had a cat called Vila?

Petra was devastated when Sigi died, but still wasn't keen on kitten Claudia, though they made friends eventually. When she died two years later, Claudia took it quite well because we'd just moved house and I think all the newness helped. But she and Tessa were so very close, and spent a lot of time together, playing or snuggled up. I won't get a kitten yet though; I'd rather give her the attention, and she may get closer to Vic now.

I think she's not eating well because it hurts to swallow, but she's certainly eating. She's lying in the sun outside at the moment, with Vic, as she did yesterday. Not close though==they tolerate each other--but maybe that will change.

No, it's much easier than a pill. I think it tastes quite pleasant because she licks it off her palate and swallows it.

Thanks. BTW Claudia's sleeping in bad with us now (with Vic on the foot of the bed) which she loves. She's good too: only climbing over my head once a night or so. We had all three in a couple of weeks ago during the bad storms, and she and Tessa egged each other on to leap in and out about once an hour. :-P So you know, Tessa was active and happy right up till Thursday when she went quiet.
