Something's eating the sun!
And it's the moon!
Today's partial eclipse is still going but past its greatest coverage which was 47%. The light looked a bit wintry even though it's a hot day, and enough of the sun was hidden to get those weird crescent-shaped shadows, or more accurately, lack of shadows as light through leaves shows the progress of the eclipse better than a pinhole in card.
Crescents of light on the deck and a wall of the house.
That big round shadow is me taking the photo.
And the cats are in the cattery. They're actually very happy there with all the toys, private hammocks, and outside play area, but I still hate leaving them there. They cry piteously until I leave. :-(

As for the cats, as far as they are happy, don“t worry!

I miss the cats, and I can't help but worry about them. I'll feel better once the holiday has started and I'm not at home with empty spaces where they should be. :-)

(My own cats are unhappy with me today, because Happiness is going in to get her teeth cleaned, and wasn't allowed to have any food after 3PM yesterday, which means nobody got any food left out. They have such terribly hard lives. :))

Poor little things. They don't understand. They even give me dirty looks when it rains. I hope it goes well with Happiness.

That's a scary icon!

I'm hoping it goes well with Happiness, too. They called me this morning and said they noticed an anomaly on her ECG when they did it before giving her the anesthetic... They thought it might be a symptom of hyperthyroidism, especially since she's been losing weight, but they tested her for that and it's negative. Apparently her heart is a tiny bit enlarged, though. I'm not sure what that means... They were going to not do the cleaning, just to be on the safest side, but apparently she has an abscess that I didn't even know about, and they want to deal with that. If it hurts her to eat, that might well be why she's losing weight. Sigh. The vet said they'd watch her very carefully, and she didn't seem to think it was too dangerous, but I'm still a little worried. Although, really, more about whether she's developing heart problems than about the anesthetic.
I'll probably blog about it later when I know how she's doing.

But I am glad they did the ECG work beforehand. They said they'd be monitoring her heart very carefully while she's under.
And I really am hoping that the weight loss was due to her not eating because of the tooth. Aww, but I feel really bad now. When I had her to the vet a year ago, the vet said she ought to have a cleaning within six months or a year, and I put it off. I was so busy worrying about Vir. Sigh.

I'm glad they monitor hearts now.

They charge extra to check out the heart beforehand, but I'm really glad I had them do it.
Will pass along the cuddles and scritches when she gets home!
