And just to add to all the stress this week, my website is down because the hosting service's billing system is borked and they don't think I paid--not just earlier this year, but ever. If this isn't resolved soon, I'll have to find another host, I have no idea where. It's expensive here. [is close to losing the plot]

[Edit:] In case I can't fix this (I'm having trouble finding all the credit card statements) does anyone know of any decent, reliable, reasonably priced hosting service they can recommend?

Before I started running my own server (which appears to be down, alas, I think my 'puter is deaded) I used APlusHosting (now apparently called http://www.serverpoint.com/). Their tech support was very good and the prices seem to be reasonable (US dollars though).

They only go back six months on line. I don't want to spend days getting a hard copy. I'd rather move somewhere else.

While the credit card on-line transactions may only go back 6 months, it's possible the company has records going further back that may be accessed if you telephone them and make a specific request for back statements.

You could try dropping hints that you might take legal action, even if you don't really intend to. Though Wikipedia tells me that New Zealand has a Small Claims Court, which hopefully would involve you in a minimum of cost and formality, so it might be worth actually doing so. (Admittedly I doubt that I would have enough courage to do that myself on your position.) It sounds as though you could get them for slander/libel for one thing.
