Update on Tessa

I took Tessa back to the eye surgeon today for a check up. I couldn't look while he did Farscape-y things to her eye, but he said it looks good, and gave me some more ointment for it. He'll see her in a month by which time the stitches will have dissolved. The graft has taken well, though it's more raised than he thought it would be. He might prescribe something to reduce it if it's still not flush in a month.

So anyway, that's a relief. Though Tessa apparently wasn't in any discomfort, she cried in protest that she was back there again, and was delighted when I took her home with me. They're bright cats, all of them; they cheer up as soon as I put them back in the cage because they know it means Home.

And now I have to cast an eye--well, two actually--over my Russian verbs for class tonight. My friend has deserted me so I'm going alone from now on while she goes diving, and the whole thing was her idea. :-( Actually, I'm considering signing on for the intermediate course next term.

That's great to hear about Tessa.

That is good news! I bet Tessa was relieved to go back in her cage :)

Have fun at Russian! That's another on the list of languages I'd really like to learn. I've got a teach-yourself tape around here somewhere....

Excellent news.

I couldn't look while he did Farscape-y things to her eye

She's not going to mutate into a half-cat/half-Pilot creature now, is she? :)

Seriously, though, I'm so glad to hear she's doing well!

Good to hear that Tessa is doing well. Enjoy the Russian. About the only thing I can remember how to say other than 'goodbye' is 'this is my brother'. Not particularly useful, since I don't have a brother, but it's odd what will stick in your mind...

I'm glad to hear that Tessa is recovering. 8-)

glad she's doing well :0)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-22 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
:-) I'm pleased she's doing well, but it's pretty typical that her eye doesn't quite look as it is meant to. [rolls own eyes]

Hurrah for Tessa's recovery, indeed! I'm sure all the tender loving care was crucial.

My sister attempted to teach me Russian when I was seven, which meant I had a hazy grasp of the alphabet when I went there... though never enough to read more than a syllable at a time, and my spoken Russian is largely confined to the chorus of a popular song.

:)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-22 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
She was, and was very happy to find herself back home. I forgot to ask if she can go outside yet. :-P I'll have to ring tomorrow.

I think it would be easier with a tape; I have to learn reading and writing too. I have now mastered (well, am sort of familiar with) common greetings and questions, gender (m, f, n), numbers, the main verb declension, and have started on cases. I tell you, Latin stands one in good stead for language complexity. I'd offer to talk to you, but I'm not keen on working out how to type in it.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-22 09:28 am (UTC)(link)
It is!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-22 09:31 am (UTC)(link)
She looks a bit mutant with one half of her eye being scarlet. I hope it flattens out and goes white.

You do not want to know why he thought it was raised. It's enough to know the graft is doing its job and has taken.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-22 09:34 am (UTC)(link)
I can almost say my standard foreign phrase, "the cat is on the table". I'd go for "Koshka v stolye", except that I think 'v' is only 'in'.

My sister and I started this tradition because she learned it in French class at school and used to lie in bed saying it over and over. :-P

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-22 09:35 am (UTC)(link)
She seems to be doing pretty well. I'll be pleased when the graft flattens out because it can't be nice having a bump on one's eye.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-22 09:36 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! I told her she has an international fan base. ;-)

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2007-08-22 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
You're right. I probably don't want to know. I'll happily avoid the gory details and just sit here and wish her well. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-22 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know any Russian songs! Well, except for the first two words of the Volga boatmen's song, which are both 'Volga'. :-P

[looks at our icons] Cat is 'kosh' (I always knew cats ruled the galaxy, furry little Vorlons!) or 'koshka' for a female one. I sometimes call Claudia "Klavdia Koshka" since my friends told me that.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-22 09:43 am (UTC)(link)
I was pretty squicked.

I shall pass your good wishes on to her in the form of extra cuddles.

LOL!

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2007-08-22 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
That's good news about Tessa! I know you've been able to see how she seems, but it's a relief to have it confirmed that she's getting better. And I'm glad that she won't have to go back again now for a month.

It's a shame about your friend dropping out of the classes. It sounds from the comments as though you're making good progress, though. I hope that momentum will keep you going.

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2007-08-22 11:55 am (UTC)(link)
Glad to hear the specialist is so pleased with Tessa, I hope the graft will settle over the next month, scars do when they are properly treated.

I take it your friend is pool diving at the moment, diving in the sea in winter is not my idea of fun?

[identity profile] san-valentine.livejournal.com 2007-08-22 12:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll join in with the chorus of wishing Tessa well. Keep up with the cuddles (give her some from me), and I'm sure that will help.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2007-08-22 06:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Good to hear Tessa is getting on well.

'das vidanya tovarish' is about the only Russian I know (and as you can see, I don't know how to spell it.)

[identity profile] jthijsen.livejournal.com 2007-08-22 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Glad to hear Tessa is doing ok. I suspect that at this moment the eye bothers you more than it does her. Cats have different priorities than how they look. Like how to get their can-openers on two legs to do their work...

[identity profile] jomacmouse.livejournal.com 2007-08-23 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
No, I wouldn't think so. Does it irritate her at all? I hope not, so I'll cross fingers that the graft flattens too.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-23 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
It's still a bit of a worry that her graft isn't flat like it's meant to be, but he didn't seem too bothered. Just puzzled.

I'm doing fine, but it's a shame I have to go alone as usual, esp when the teacher likes us to work in pairs. I'll probably do the intermediate course. :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-23 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
She's doing both; the sea's temperature doesn't actually change much, and a wetsuit keeps her well insulated.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-23 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
She's getting lots of cuddles; Claudia has to get compensatory ones! Tessa escaped today and we found her sunning herself on the deck. I must find out if she's allowed out now.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-23 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Spelling Russian in Roman letters varies anyway; it's quite different in French or German transliterations. And vice versa: 'Auckland' is spelled 'Oklend" in Russian.

Goodbye to you too, comrade!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-23 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm not worried from an aesthetic point of view. I'm just concerned that the graft isn't flat like it's meant to be, and he said it could bother her blinking over it. He may prescribe an anti-inflammatory when he sees her again.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-23 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
The surgeon thought it might, so he may prescribe an anti-inflammatory when he sees her next. It surprised him but he seems to think she's fine apart from it being raised.

[identity profile] jomacmouse.livejournal.com 2007-08-23 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
If she can live with it, and the vet says the only problem is one of aesthetics, then it's all right. I certainly can't see you loving her any less :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-23 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Of course I couldn't! She is utterly lovable!

Her eye will never look good again, but I'd like it to be smooth so it doesn't give her any trouble or annoy her.

[identity profile] imhilien.livejournal.com 2007-08-23 06:36 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad to hear Tessa is slowly getting better...

[identity profile] jomacmouse.livejournal.com 2007-08-23 08:52 am (UTC)(link)
She isn't the only one, given that icon :D

Yes, because if it troubles or annoys her, the last thing you want her to do is take matters into her own claws...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-23 09:04 am (UTC)(link)
Claudia and Tessa are darlings.

[shudder] I'm sure that's how she's got some of her eye injuries.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-08-23 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
She is! She was outside today in the sun on the deck. :-)
