Teddy the Cornish--no, Devon--Rex

I took these photos over a week ago, but I've only got round to sorting them out and uploading them. Besides, I wasn't that keen on doing a cat post when I was so worried about my own one.

Teddy (his name is on his collar) is a one-year-old cat who visits the office from the next block to look for company. This would be very cute, but:
1) my boss is very allergic to cats
2) Teddy's a loudly demanding little guy who wants attention now and will do anything to get it. :-)

He has disrupted meetings by yowling at the door so loudly, the speaker was distracted and unnerved. If I let him into my room to get him away from visitors whom he regards as sport, he runs about the place crying till I pick him up. It was not easy to get these photos because he's in constant motion.

[Edit] I thought he was a Cornish Rex because that was the only cat I knew of with a curly coat, but he turns out to be a Devon Rex; his face (narrow with big eyes and ears) matches.

If you haven't seen a Cornish Devon Rex before, you might like to see what one looks like. I got a good one of his face.

He has curly fur which feels really like tiger cub fur because of the change in texture as you run your hands over it. It's thin enough for me to feel his body heat and wiry little muscles through it. [Edit] He's missing the top 'guard' coat of fur, so it seems he has one more coat than the Cornish Rex which only has the bottom down layer.

I'm also not too worried about this little guy getting run over because he's terrified of cars; he only crosses the road if there isn't a moving vehicle in sight. BTW his owner told me he has a sister called Tessa (!) whom I've never seen because she doesn't wander from home.

...but by taking lots of photos, I fluked one where he was looking at me. Note the motion-blurred tail. :-)

I do *think* the Cornish Rex breeders introduced Siamese in some lines in order to capture the coat color and Teddy appears to be one of that type. He seems to have Siamese coloring and other aspects of head shape etc. which indicate a fair percentage of Siamese in his bloodline. That may account for his personality. Siamese are *talkers*.

I once briefly had 2 kittens, both black and white, from an abandoned litter. I gave them to a woman who gave one to a friend. One of them had Siamese shaped head and tail, and turned out to be a 'talker', the other had rounded 'cobby' features, and was a quiet cat.

Huh! He has an extremely narrow face and huge ears, more extreme than the Siamese I've known, so I thought it was a feature of the breed.

I see in the Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornish_rex) article that it's not wool, but the down undercoat that all cats have--they lack fur! No wonder he feels warm when I touch him; he must lose a lot of heat.

Lovely cat, but that photo where he's looking directly at the camera I find rather creepy.

Yikes! I just noticed that because of the angle of the shot, it's one of those pictures where the eyes seem to follow you as you move around...

I like that photo! He's got lovely eyes.

He comes over just for company because his owner's at work. I seen lots of cats do that, in shops or ground floor offices like ours; they learn where there are people during the day. At Harvey's, a furnishing fabric place, there's a cat who sleeps on the bed in the window but lives somewhere else. I've heard of several offices with cats who turned up and stayed, and I worked at one.

I'd be tempted to think he might be a Devon Rex. The Devon has a longer, pointier face and bigger ears than the Cornish Rex, and from those photos Teddy looks a little more like a Devon to me. (though I'm not an expert)

I love the pic of him curled on the chair, grooming the base of his tail. The ripples in his coat make a lovely pattern - and possible subject for an artwork ?

I've never heard of a Devon Rex. [looks it up in the Wikipedia] You could be right!

If he is supposed to be a cornish rex then he is also part siames too - that nose is sooo Siamese.
Gorgeous eyes though. It's a pity your boss is allergic he's a great cat.

He is! He's the only one I've ever seen. Apparently his sister is a much darker grey, but she's sensible and stays home.
