SF dictionary and a font

This might interest people: Brave New Words, a dictionary of science fiction. The review is by Michael Quinion of World Wide Words. Now I know what 'fafiate' means, but I'd never heard of FIAWOL, even though it's true.

Oh and while I'm doing an SF link, here's the Village font for The Prisoner should anyone want it.

I can resist anything but temptation... I've ordered the book and downloaded the font :)

Oh well, I had an order with amazon.uk pending :)

Love the font!
Thanks for the intro to a great site.
Can't help wondering if it will include all the "colourful" words.
Frak, Drokk, Fardles to name but a few.

I'd heard of gafiate, not fafiate...

I like that World Wide Words site; might bookmark that.

I'd like to read that sf dictionary, but not sure I want to buy it.

I know frak and grok. But drokk and fardles?

Ah, maybe it's gafiate I've heard. Gone rather than forced; that makes sense.

Yay, wordiness!

There's no reason fafiate shouldn't exist! But I distinctly remember having gafiate explained to me, and I understood it as a self-willed act rather than a forced one.

That page was this week's newsletter which I get e-mailed. It's worth signing up for and it's free; click on 'Manage Your Subscription' at the top.

There's room--and enough cause in some fandoms--for both.

Fardles - Anne McCaffrey's favourite word curse. Used in most of her books. You also get Fardling!
Drokk - I first saw this in the 2000AD comic but I have seen it used elsewhere so not sure of its origination.
