Beware the Ides of March: autumn is coming

Happy Ides of March, everyone! (Well, it is here.)

And it's cold too, a whole 10 degrees less than it was last weekend. I hope the summer comes back now the big three-day storm seems to have passed (leaving branches everywhere and all my outdoor pot plants on their sides) because I'm going on holiday tomorrow. Actually, I don't mind if it's not hot, as long as it's dry.

Daylight saving goes off this weekend. I always mourn this as the death knell of summer and herald of the winter of discontent and colds. However they're talking about either extending it to give us a decent serving of longer evenings, or making it permanent, in effect moving the time zone forward an hour because of the energy savings (as the UK did during WW2). I'd be happy with either.

Oh and spunky PC guy brought my work 'puter back yesterday, yay! :-D

Glad to hear that you have your work computer back.

Enjoy your holiday!

Have a happy holiday!

Happy holiday. We go on to Daylight saving in the last weekend of March and I will be glad to see it, I hate going to work in the dark and coming home in the dark too.

Daylight saving in the last weekend of March

At least it doesn't coincide with Mothering Sunday this year. It quite often does and the number of people who forget and bring their children into the special church service half way through is more than you expect. And the mothers don't get a lie in.

And the computer hasn't lost any of your work?

Enjoy your holiday.

they are talking about double summertime here again, I hope they go for it

Yay for your computer back! Have you managed to get done what you needed to before your holiday? Or at least, enough of it?

Hurrah for your holiday - I hope it's going to be a fabulous time!

Btw, what did you think of the 'spunky' computer guy?! :-)

Changes in Daylight Savings time schedules mess up everything electronic you own that's pre-programmed to account for it, though. Which can turn out to be a surprising number of items. (Looks forlornly at alarm clock, wall clock, and VCR clock that will need to be re-rest when Daylight Time should have started, and at TiVo which, while functioning properly, is nevertheless slightly confused.)

[hugs computer] Well, not really, but I was so pleased to see it.

Thanks! We go tomorrow. Eep. Packing tonight.

It's always the third Sunday for us, but they're going to extend it next time. Yay!

All my work and files were on the server; I was just missing all my e-mails and my fonts etc. It's all back now. Yay!

Thanks!

They did in in WW2 I heard, and people called it double-daft time. :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-03-14 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Most of it (I'm still at work, eating lunch). Some of it I just can't get done because staff are away. Oh, well, they said to do what I could.

Me too! The storm's over and the sun's out again; I hope it stays that way. :-D

Tall, dark, slender, and very cute! A bit like you, actually, but with a bit of facial fuzz.

Yep. We're changing ours ahead of time tomorrow before we go, esp the TiVos so they'll record programs while we're away. I don't think anything but the computers change automatically.

I'm glad it's this weekend rather than the one in the middle of our holiday; that would be a right pain because we'd have to download all the programs missed in the second week (not having a TiVo feed). Still, being able to download stuff we miss (like during that power outage) is a huge help and takes a lot of stress off the person who stuffs up the TiVo programming. :-P

The thing I love about mine is that it's next to impossible to stuff up the programming. :)

Hurrah for a computer that works! :D

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2007-03-15 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yep! I'm home now and I got pretty much everything done that I could do (without staff away on courses) that was due in the next two weeks. I soooo need this holiday.
