Claudia

I had to take Claudia to the vet yesterday because she was gacking and pawing at her mouth. I thought, like [livejournal.com profile] glitterboy1 with his Thomas, that she had something stuck in her throat but it turns out she has gingivitis, plus she appears to have scratched her gum with her own claws. Poor little thing. She was trying to tell me something on Friday but I don't speak Burmese. I know that when she's upset, there's always a reason, but all the water bowls were full and none of the cats had broken anything or vomited.

So she's now on antibiotics and pain killers (both liquid, which is much easier) and has to have an operation in 2-3 weeks to have her teeth scaled. I knew this was coming up and she was meant to have it done in the middle of the year, but I put it off. I lost a cat under anaesthetic during a minor mouth op, as did a friend, and Claudia has a fast heart rate (tachycardia?). So I'll get her blood tested thoroughly first and hope for the best.

Oh, poor Claudia! I do hope she's feeling more comfortable soon.

She's a lot happier now it's not hurting as much, and she's still eating biscuits although I gave her some soft food with warm water in it to make it extra mushy.

She's sitting on my lap right now as I type. :-)

Poor little Cloudy-girl. I hope it all goes smoothly and she feels better soon.

She's a lot better already, but she's still a bit subdued. She purrs as soon as I touch her though, and she's eating well.

We call her our little rain-cloud and blame Auckland's weather on her. ;-)

I'm sorry to hear that - I hope the operation goes well...

Thanks! It's not for a couple of weeks yet, so I'll hold of worrying and panicking till then. :-P

*pets Claudia* I hope all goes well, she always looks like an absolute doll-baby in all the pics I've seen of her.

I really should take my Tara to have her teeth cleaned... beyond the time/money aspect of it, though, I do feel not very lucky lately & am nervous about it.

Oh, good luck.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-12 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
I know how you feel, which is why I'm paying extra to have thorough blood tests first so they can look after her well when she's under.

And Claudia is a darling, as is Tessa. Vic's become very smoochy and tame too.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-12 07:07 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks!

A good plan... I'm sure that Kitty will be all right. :-)

HUGS to you both. Hope everything goes okay.

Thanks! The op's not for a cope of weeks. I want her to finish her course of drugs first. Just getting her to swallow the antibiotic is a trial, even though it's liquid.. :-P

I'm glad Claudia is feeling better. It's amazing how animals bounce back once the pain is reduced. Best of luck to her for the operation.

poor Claudia :0( I hope she feels better soon. It's so hard trying to work out what they are trying to tell us, and they trust us to sort everything out

Poor thing! I'm glad that she's doing a bit better now, though.

I don't blame you for being worried about the anaesthetic. I worried yesterday about Thomas, but he's come through it ok.

Muffin has had to have teeth out before - more than once, in fact. The first time, I felt terribly worried and guilty, and wondered how he would manage, but he's been absolutely fine.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-12 07:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks! They do seem to bounce back quickly, though I think she's not as lively as usual, sue to the drugs.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-12 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, poor little thing. She's quite a lot better already.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-11-12 07:09 pm (UTC)(link)
So have these cats, so far. Tessa was fine last year, and I know they have better anaesthetics now that animals recover from much more quickly. I can't stop worrying though, not after losing my sweet Sigi.

How's lovely Thomas getting on now?

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2006-11-12 07:14 pm (UTC)(link)
He seems to be doing really well, thanks! He's given up with the sitting on my lap, now, and they're both lying on different bits of the bed - cunningly positioned so that there'll be no room for me... Ah well, I have a few hours yet before I'll need to disturb them.

We sometimes have to sleep in twisted positions because of cats. :-P
