Assorted weirdness

My new (to me) car was ready so I went in on the bus to pick it up. Seen on the bus:

  • A young woman who looked disconcertingly like Aeryn Sun (except that she had brown hair)
  • A bald man in t-shirt and jeans who appeared to be tattooed all over his body--except for his ears
  • Far too many muffin tops. Mind you, one is too many. I wish people realised that tight low-riders do not suit all.
When I got the car, it had done exactly 69696 kms. That'll be easy to remember.

On the way home, I went to Beds R Us to look at mattresses, and was a bit taken aback to see Federation bedside units. Right next to Astro ones, haha. Sorry, they were plain wood, no mutoid black vinyl or Banik bedside lights.

And a good Easter, Pesach, autumn or spring break to you all!

Muffin tops? Que?

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2006-04-13 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Aww! I want a Banik bedside light!

And I've never heard the term "muffin tops," either, though I think I can figure it out from context. And I most definitely agree with you on the subject. :)

What you get when a zaftig girl wears tight hipster jeans; quite a bit of her gets squeezed out over the top. Not a good look.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-04-13 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
A Banik bedside light would be a round leather lampshade open on one side with a golden soft-light bulb. Or a Teddy Bearnik with a LED. Or a Stykera with a nice bed[side] manner, of course. ;-)

Muffin-top is only a local term? But it's so descriptive! Maybe people have more sense of aesthetics in New Mexico. Do you know the whale-tail (visible Y-shaped thong seen above the low-rider from behind) and camel-toe (I'd rather not describe that)?

[identity profile] redstarrobot.livejournal.com 2006-04-13 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
Camel-toe (the term) is universal, but I've never actually seen what it describes. The others are entirely local. :)

You've reminded me of something I was going to post about before events this morning overtook me. Last night's 7pm ABC news programme had two interesting items running consecutively - firstly, filtering pornographic websites; secondly, the Venus probe. Little Miss Dozy wasn't paying full attention and was taken aback a bit by the juxtaposition.

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2006-04-13 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Muffin tops abound around here too but I had never heard of that term for them. It is very descriptive as are the other two, I think.

Can you transfer your registration plate to the new car?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-04-13 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
I hadn't seen camel-toe till I saw a male example on [livejournal.com profile] shimere277's UFO posts. :-P

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-04-13 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
It is! I think whale-tail is popular because we get whales off the coast quite a bit here.

Oh, yes! The plates are mine. I just have to re-register both cars with changed plates next week. Then I can put a pic of the new silvery LIBR8R under the old one on my site. :-)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-04-13 06:06 am (UTC)(link)
LOL! So you should post anyway.

Is that you in the pic? :-)

[identity profile] glitterboy1.livejournal.com 2006-04-13 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
And a happy whatever to you, too!

Have fun with your car!

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2006-04-13 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes! The plates are mine

Excellent, much the same happens here, I think you have to pay a fee here though and buying a special plate can cost thousands of pounds. One day I must check if we ever had a LIB8R which is the closest our system could come to it.

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2006-04-13 06:25 am (UTC)(link)
We certainly have the phenomenon, I just hadn't ever realized anybody had a word for it. It certainly is descriptive, though. :)

I've never heard of "what-tail." I have heard of "camel toe," though it took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out what the heck it meant. :)

Ah.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-04-13 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
I will! It's very shiny and has some cool new features. :-D

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-04-13 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
Here you can have anything you like as long as it's up to six letters and numbers with optional spaces, no one else has it, and it's not offensive. It cost me about $300 (~ 100 pounds?) a few years ago, and I can keep it for successive cars or sell it.

Zaftig?

This thread could run and run. :)

A bald man in t-shirt and jeans who appeared to be tattooed all over his body--except for his ears

He was wearing see-through t-shirt and jeans? :)

And thanks for the Easter good wish, and the same to you.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-04-13 09:50 am (UTC)(link)
'Zaftig' is Yiddish: literally 'juicy', metaphorically 'plump'.

I said 'appeared', not 'was'.

[identity profile] jhall1.livejournal.com 2006-04-13 09:58 am (UTC)(link)
I know. I was just being awkward. :)

[identity profile] hafren.livejournal.com 2006-04-13 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I wish people realised that tight low-riders do not suit all.

People can be very blind to how they look. This reminded me of wicked old Ogden Nash:

Sure, deck your lower limbs in pants:
Yours are the limbs, my sweeting.
You look divine as you advance -
Have you seen yourself retreating?

And the reverse(!) case: the fascinating Japanese word bakkushan, coined from "back" and "schön" and meaning a woman who, from behind, looks as if she might be very pretty but proves not to be when viewed from in front...

I've no memory of ever hearing it!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-04-14 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes, I know the term and phenomenon. My mother, with her shapely legs and bum, used to get whistled at, but only from behind. ;-P

*compares newly acquired photo id with little angel* Not now, no. I used to look a bit like that. Maybe that's why Mum had a thing about dressing me in pink as a child, because little angel is a boy if I'm remembering J M Cameron's models correctly...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2006-04-19 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, right. I thought it could be a photo of you in fancy dress as a kid, made sepia (a bit of a fashion in icons). :-P

Hello there!

I must find the pic of me at 3 in dungarees...
