New furniture and cats

Yesterday we went to a shop that imports Ikea (we don't actually have Ikea here) and ordered two chests of drawers, a wardrobe, and a coffee table to arrive at the Oamaru house just after us. Houses that age don't have any built-in storage so we need somewhere for our clothes. The coffee table will match the chairs and sofa we bought a couple of months ago to replace our old, tired furniture.

We're hoping the cats will take to the new house readily. They certainly do to furniture. The very first night, Sebastian claimed a chair.




"Mine," said Sebastian.

It didn't stop there.

As a late birthday present, Greg got me a second-hand cane chair. The very same day?

"Mine," said Ashley. (And she's sleeping on it right now.)

As Greg feels the cold, I got a new fleecy throw last week that would match, unlike the old blue one. That night?

"Mine," said Jasmin.


"Seriously. Mine."

Ha! Are you allowed to use your own furniture at times? I'm sitting all squeezed up right now because a cat wants to share my computer chair with me and my lap wasn't suited to her requirements. She doesn't request, she insists... and if I stand up to make a cup of tea, she'll take it over entirely. Ahh, cats, why do we love them.

If I've got somewhere else to sit, I'll leave them there. If Ashley's on my chair in the lounge, I have a big sofa to sit on so I leave her in peace. The TV room is another matter; I have to pick up any cat on my chair there and put them on my lap - if they decide to stay, that is. If Greg's computer chair is empty, or Greg gets up from it to get something, then woosh - Sebastian's there like a shot. :-) Then Greg gives up and sits somewhere else

I'm not sure why we let them bully us. But we do. Loving them goes without saying, except for projectile vomiting. :-P

They let us use it now and then. Jasmin will condescend to sleep on one of us under "her" blanket.

Oh, yes. 'It's new I must claim it' is a cat motto. It happens to me every time I lay out fabric on the table. I have to wait until Natasha has sat on it and got bored before I can prepare the fabric for sewing.

Your fur kids look to be settling in very happily. :^)

They do love layers too - put a throw or some clothing anywhere and they're on it. :-)

Yes! Natasha *adores* anything sweaty of mine, too. I put down a pair of gardening gloves on the table while I took out the trash and I came back to find her rolling and purring in ecstasy on the gloves.

And shoes! As well as the usual ecstatic rolling, Claudia used to bite mine.

Oh, wow, yes. I find 'tasha trying to wear my yard shoes as hats all the time she sticks her head in so far. Once she even put a catnip mouse inside.

Better than a real one! Jasmin was acting strange with one of Greg's sneakers and I told him there was probably a mouse in there. He didn't believe me and put his hand in - and dropped it with surprise when he touches it at the very end. He then released it outside.

Oh, so you heard my Geoffrey making chugging noises in the middle of the night? I woke up quickly enough to surprise him off the bed and into the (hard-floored) hallway before he brought anything up. I'm somewhat on the alert for signs of his delicate digestion after the last couple of times - when he managed to hurl in three different places around the house before we caught him, and got the carpet each time.

I don't think there's anything actually wrong with him. He's not unwell, he's just very sensitive...

Same with Jasmin! Greg leapt out of bed last night but wasn't in time to move her to the top of the unit, which he managed the time before. Jasmin's known for frequent puking, like your Geoffrey, and will do it from altitude to get a better spread. Sigh.

No IKEA? What kind of desolate wasteland do you live in?

We're too small to bother with. :-( There's not a lot of choice from the importers but I'm pleased with what we have.

I get so bloody envious of people with good access to IKEA and other things we either don't get here or are horrendously expensive. People go to Australia on buying trips.
