And Claudia's wearing grey

...and not just at night.

Claudia is going back for a check-up on Saturday, but already she's lost her limp and is much more lively, active, and a lot happier. I'm delighted and really, really hope she stays that way.

Oh good, glad to hear it :0)

Aww, really glad to hear that.

Oh yay! I know what it's like to worry over them...

Excellent news.

Hurrah! What did the trick?

Simon's sent me some pics of Thomas now...

Ooh, he looks like my brother's Sam. What a regal cat.

Claudia has a drop of something called Metacalm with food at night, plus we started her and Tessa on green-lipped mussel pills at the same time, but I assume it's the drops as the pills, I was told, take longer to kick in.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-06-23 11:20 am (UTC)(link)
And I do. They're a big part of my life.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-06-23 11:21 am (UTC)(link)
She doesn't chase her tail any more, but she's jumping up to the top of the couch again. She's her old self.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-06-23 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! She's back to thuggily leaping on us again in bed...

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-06-23 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
It is! How's your Poacher? What treatment is he on?

[identity profile] pinkdormouse.livejournal.com 2005-06-23 11:48 am (UTC)(link)
Poacher's fine at the moment. He's on the green-lipped mussel every day and carprofen as and when he needs it.

Claudia's on the pills too (as is Tessa) and also Metacalm. I suppose I'll find out on Saturday if she has to stay on that.

So glad to hear she's getting better:).

Aw, glad to hear she's feeling better. Cats can worry you to death, but the feeling of little paws kneading your leg, and that warm purr, makes every moment worth it.

[identity profile] pinkdormouse.livejournal.com 2005-06-23 12:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I liked metacam and the various forms of carprofen pretty much equally as first-line treatments. Metacam is easier to give as small doses in cats and rabbits, though.

Oh, yay! Glad to hear it. :)

I'm taking Nova in to get his teeth cleaned on Monday. I've got to go to the vet's today to pick up antibiotics for him, because he's supposed to have them for a couple of days before the procedure. I am not looking forward to this. Nova's my... touchy... cat. :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-06-23 06:55 pm (UTC)(link)
It does! I'm putty in their paws (typing round a cat).

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-06-23 06:56 pm (UTC)(link)
You can get liquid antibiotics. They're easier to either get down them or mix into their feed. Vic takes pills well, but the girls are a nightmare.

[identity profile] linda-joyce.livejournal.com 2005-06-23 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Great. Those greenlipped mussels really do work then?

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2005-06-23 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
I figure that's probably what they'll give me. That's what I had to give Happiness when she had her mouth infection. But I know Nova, and he's not going to want to take it.

Ah, well. Scratches heal... :)

[identity profile] neneithel.livejournal.com 2005-06-23 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
That's wonderful news!

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-06-23 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Claudia and Tessa are a right pain (sometimes literally) with pills, but Claudia's fine with the Metacalm drops I have to give her for her limp. I put one drop n her mouth, she swallows (nothing to spit out), then I put her down in front of some of her favourite food.

I love that icon.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-06-23 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it's the Metcalm drops at the moment (they act in a few days), but I hope the pills do work well when she comes off that.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-06-23 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you! The poor little thing turned out to have bad arthritis in one leg but she's right back to her normal feisty self. :-)

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2005-06-23 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Happiness had to have a dropper full of antibiotics three times a day for months. She was really good about it at first, but eventually she got really fed up, and it was difficult to get her to hold still long enough to get it into her. I can kind of sympathize. I didn't enjoy it either.

I've got Nova's now. He gets his first dose tonight. I'll probably be able to sneak up on him with that one, but I'll bet you anything the next time I have to pull him out from under the bed. Sigh. It's a good thing I love these animals. :)

The icon seemed strangely appropriate. Alas, it's one of the ones I seem to have lost the attribution for, and I can't for the life of me remember who did it, or whether they requested credit. Which perhaps means I shouldn't be using it, but how could I resist?

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-06-23 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd go on using it; after all you didn't steal it. I think you got it from an icon community with a name like snurch_icons. It's gorgeous and so appropriate. You could always put a note on it to say you've forgotten who made it.

It's a good thing I love these animals. :)

LOL, yes! That gets me through the bad times like when Tessa had a detached retina and needed an operation from one of the only two animal ophthalmic surgeons in the country (and he was in the next suburb). She looked like a frankencat for weeks with her eye stitched shut with bright blue thread through a yellow plastic disc so the stitches wouldn't pull.

[identity profile] astrogirl2.livejournal.com 2005-06-23 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
There were a couple of FS icon communities I snurched stuff from, and I'm not sure whether it was that one or a different one. And searching through months and months of entries looking for it is way too big a job. But I should but a note on it. That's a good idea.

Oh, poor Tessa! That sounds horrible. I hope the eye came out all right.

I am such a sap for animals, really. I've been reading a collection of James Herriot's vet stories, and they keep making me want to cry, generally for no particularly good reason. *rolls eyes* :)

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-06-23 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I have a collection of his Christmas stories and they always make me blub.

Tessa's eye is fine now. It was a bad time though because the vet's first treatments didn't work and I kept taking her back and saying it was getting worse, which it was. Poor little girl; the stuff I was given was just hurting her. :-( But she's a gentle and forgiving little thing.

[identity profile] entropy-house.livejournal.com 2005-06-25 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I'm very relieved to hear that the treatment's helping Claudia. She does look and sound like such a sweetheart.

[identity profile] vilakins.livejournal.com 2005-06-25 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
She is! We took her back to the vet today for a check-up and the vet held her for quite a while after the examination and stroked and cuddled her. :-) We were told to stick with the green-lipped mussel pills and tail the Metacalm drops off.
